Hubbard had been on his way home from a night of heavy drinking when he met Bird outside a ByWard Market shelter at 3:30 a.m. on Jan 1, 2011. The two took a cab back to Hubbard?s apartment.
Hubbard was severely intoxicated: Bird was at the tail end of a four-day crack binge.
Less than half an hour later, Hubbard would be bleeding to death after Bird stabbed him seven times with one of his own kitchen knives. The stabbing occurred after neighbours heard Hubbard loudly yelling at Bird to get out.
It?s the fourth time Bird has been convicted of stabbing someone.
Ontario Superior Court Justice Julianne Parfett said Bird?s crime was particularly brutal: Hubbard was stabbed in the face, head, chest, thigh and hand with one of his own kitchen knives. One of the wounds pierced his heart.
Hubbard also had defensive wounds on his arms from trying to deflect the attack, and the blade of the knife was bent after he apparently grabbed it.
Bird fled, telling no one of what happened.

Drinking at 12, drugs at 13, in court 3 months before she did this guy.
I'm sure she has lots of experience with the legal system, lots of experience with
judges letting her walk away while she whines ' the drugs made me do it '.
By 3 other stabbings, no way she should be walking around getting ready for number 4.
Now some poor shlub has to die before anyone stops this bitch.
The intervention has to come much earlier, while she is a child, before she ever saw the inside of a courtroom. Alcoholic mother, mentally ill father - that family needed supports in place or she needed to be in a properly funded, caring foster home. That's still a lot cheaper than the 100k or more it costs to keep somebody in jail for a year. Never mind the cost of the dead victim.
4 stabbings, it's a safe bet to throw in a dozen drug related cases, and maybe another
half dozen prostitution raps.
Run through the whole system, all by your bleeding heart friends, and look at the result.

Prostitution raps - it should be legal anyway. Possession of drugs - big deal. Was she dealing? Unlikely if she was hooking.
Try to read what I write instead of just making up your own crap. I said being lenient on her for the stabbings won't do any good. She has to be helped before she ever entered the justice system.

So trying to put this woman's propensity for violence and drug abuse on society and the system isn't exactly accurate. She knifed four people and got off 3 times which would indicate she didn't want any help for her "bad decisions".
She can now get the help she needs in prison where I hope she spends every day of that far to short 12 year sentence.
Get off the drugs and alcohol, or end up being warehoused in jail.

From the points above found in the article it seems she had chances to change her life style of drinking and drugs but chose not to.

For fucks sake, what is wrong with you people. Can't you read? I'm talking about when she was a kid, growing up in that family. By the time she's an addict that battle is already on the way to being lost.
Her propensity for violence is accurately blamed on a society that lets her grow up in such a home, then wants to spend money to incarcerate her for years after she kills somebody instead. That money would have been much better spent at the front end.
Maybe she'll get some help in prison. And maybe she'll just get even harder by being in there, come out worse than she went in. Prisons don't focus on rehabilitation very much.
