Having said that, because I took the road less travelled, I've had experiences that NONE of my friends have had (and likely never will) - walking the Great Wall, studying foreign languages (and their women) in their native countries, surfing in the Pacific, exploring the D-Day beaches, etc.
While my road may have had more difficulties than most of my friends, it has also been far more exciting and interesting IMHO.
Had I known at 20 what I know now, I would have gone into the trades and made a bundle like some of my buddies did. Either that, or I would have forced myself into a profession like other friends did.

Tooo funny!
Having entered the trades I have the rest of my life to do that....and I am all at 48.

Yeah, I saw lots of old geezers like you overseas...you spend 20 minutes an hour on the toilet and the rest bitching that your knees/back/whatever hurts and you don't want to go any farther. Way better to do it when you're young and can go for 18 hours instead of 2 or 3 like you old farts!
Even funnier is that most of them are too scared to go off the beaten path, so they get the tourist treatment (with way higher prices) instead of an authentic experience. Enjoy your geriatric tour groups that have every second of the day planned for you - too bad if you want to stay somewhere and actually see something.
And act like you are 9.
Is there a CKA troll award? 90% of what you post are troll posts.

If there was, you'd have it for sure - ALL of your posts are trolling attempts.

Dream on fat boy, I would pass you and your fat wife on the trail like you were standing still.

Coming from you, the King of Trolls, all I can say is thank you!

You might have even written more compelling literature. No one wants to read drama of being a English PhD candidate.

Actually, I tried academic writing and hated it. That's one reason why I stopped at a Master's...
Having said that, the road less travelled has certainly provided plenty of anecdotes and stories for me. As the saying goes, life truly is stranger than fiction.
That's not to say that educated people can be stupid in their own way. Always liked the saying that the intelligence of a crowd varied inversely with its numbers and the education of its members. So a mob of post docs, look out.
I'm having to do something mindless at work today, and a colleague swung by to talk about his buddy who's a multi-millionaire from setting up one of the early porn sites. That's it. Sites gone now, but he's set for life, and didn't have to work too hard for it.
On the other hand I still remember those 8 year old orphans hunting for recyclables in the burning Kabul landfill.
