The Bengtsson-Korsås family first noticed something was wrong when their cat refused to enter the kitchen in their flat in Solna, north-west Stockholm.

Another reason to pack heat at home.

In the Swedish story the cat was afraid to go into the kitchen. I don't blame him.

I had a bull terrier one time who would have gone in quick enough. Would have been a good scrap. Would have liked to have gotten that one on video for YouTube.

I do. But I blame the people more.

We are humans. We can level a city with the heat of the sun in the blink of an eye, and we get cornered in our homes by cats and rodents? Do people not have things like meat tenderizers, meat cleavers, rolling pins or knifes anymore? How about testicles?

Perhaps the rat just needed some quiet time.

Had a mouse with balls one time. He would walk right up to a trap, look at me and then calmly walk away! One evening me & '22 short' pulled up a chair , lit a smoke and waited....plink! Might use a '22 long' for a rodent that size.

What would you use for this?

    A broom.

    A chair.

    A cutting board.

    A jar of pickles.

    My foot.

    . . .

I certainly wouldn't cower from it for a week.

I caught a rat one time in a standard size mouse trap. Woke me up in the middle of the night scrabbling about with the trap on the end of its nose. Had been hanging pictures and left the hammer on top of the fridge. Handy things hammers!

Why would you waste a perfectly good jar of pickles?

I wouldn't waste it! It's more than heavy enough to stun the beast long enough to dispatch it with something more appropriate.

I've killed a lot bigger and meaner animal than that. And it was delicious!

That think reminds me of the book 'King Rat' by James Clavell. ;)

Rats in SK get that big. Every once in a while you'll discover a nest under an old abandoned wood grain bin. You get the dogs and a few guys with shovels, then you lift one end of the grain bin with a front end loader. Rats run out and you're swinging the shovel.

I've attended two of these rat bashings. Ah the good old days.

When the BIG male rats come out (as pictured above) they can put on a fight. The dogs always win, but I've seen some big, mean dogs get quite cut up from one big mean rat. I've also witnessed big dogs that weren't mean enough and had the rat hurt them enough to put the dog on the run for a few seconds.
