Gun-related message boards lit up this week over news of the arrest of an American man at the Canadian border. Retired U.S. Army sergeant major Louis DiNatale and his wife were on a romantic getaway from Kentucky to Vermont when they say their GPS led the

I don't have much sympathy for him, but he did say he was lost and just wanted to turn around. They should have let him do that originally, before the searched his car.

Guess the sergeant major should have not 'forgotten' that he left a gun in his car.

    Responsible gun owner driving through!

A little wisdom on the part of your border jerks would've been fine, too. The guy wanted to turn around and they should have just let him turn around and let the US Border Patrol arrest him for smuggling a gun into the US.

See above. I doubt your border shitheads would have been the epitome of compassion.

Don't like the laws, don't crass the border. Simple as that. The guards don't exist to ensure you have a great day as you fill your diaper in lawbreaking.

    Boohoo.

I would let him off lightly though, unless there is good reason to suspect he's lying.

re: letting him turn around: what happens when he gets to the US Border and doesn't have a Passport? He'll likely be refused and in Canada. A CAnadian Border gaurd would need to chaperone him to monitor that he indeed turned back. The amount of hassle to allow him to do that is just not worth it, especially at a major crossing.

Only one side of the story but clearly he must be a saint though, so the CBSA should have sent him on his way.

Totally blown out of all proportion, if we're getting the whole story.....at the most confiscate the gun, fine him for stupidity and allow him to return to the US.

Since that didn't happen, I'd bet we didn't get the whole story. Betcha someone pitched a US sized hissy fit and talked himself into an arrest.

Believe me, your shit heads would be every bit the jerks and pressed an issue. I know a guy who spent the day locked in a room because he had an orange in his lunch bag. He now gets the full Monty when he tries to cross which he has to to often with his business.

So next time Bieber tries flying into the states someone should dump a baggie of his ganjah and slip in some sections of a navel orange

Kinder Surprise egg seized at U.S. border

A cross-border kerfuffle over a popular chocolate treat nearly cost a Winnipeg woman a $300 fine and saddled her with a bureaucratic headache.
    ...
"It's just a chocolate egg," Bird said. "And they were making a big deal. They said 'if you were caught with this across the border you would get charged a $300 fine,'" she said.

You don't want our delicious chocolates, we don't want your guns.

My GPS didn’t say, ‘you’re entering another country,’” DiNatale said.

He said he tried to explain to the border officer why they didn’t have their passports and asked if they could just turn around. He said he showed them their reservation documents.

His statement does not make sense. It is one of the 10 most used border crossings. Here is an aerial view.

It is a divided multi-lane highway with over 6 booths to speed traffic flow north and south. The GPS may not have said Canada ahead, but what about all the signs he passed in the 20 miles before the border? Look at the multiple turnaround options all the way up to and after the US crossing point.

'Duh. I did not want to go to Canada so I stayed on the road with all the signs saying Canadian border crossing.'

His story seems pretty weak when you view the pictures. He either thought he could get away with it or has a low IQ.
