Report on Austrian Times english news online newspaper: An Austrian tourist who claimed she was raped by a policeman's son in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates has been told that she is facing jail herself - for having sex outside of marriage.

    I would like to see if this story is actually true. If it is then it is a strange set of laws.

    In the Middle East Region this is the norm be it rape or not rape. It is Barbaric Law and still in practice in that Region. Remember Women in the Middle East are still luggage and 2nd rate in rights if any.

    The really bizarre part of this is that the police told the rape victim that if she agrees to marry the male that raped her that the charges would be dropped. I am much too western to understand the logic to this.

    It has nothing to do with being too western. Anyone with a basic level of respect for women wouldn't get it.

    I only started to understand after my wife, now a retired Marine explained it to me from her gulf deployment Experiences in Saudi Arabia. Her main thing she hated was being followed and harassed by the Saudi Religious Cops off base lol. She got more respect and equal rights on base then off.
