An 18-year-old man who was allowed to get on a flight at Edmonton International Airport in September after he was caught bringing a pipe bomb to security has been sentenced for possession of an explosive device.
"saturn_656" said The CATSA personnel responsible would all be looking for new jobs if they worked for me.
Fatal error.
It's amazing to me that they took 4 days to report it to RCMP. Isn't standard policy to put the perp in a room naked and lay a good beat down while the waiting for the cops?
Ahh... Am I missing something here ? This went down as 1-pipe bomb detected at security. 2- pipe bomb taken away. 3- sent on plane trip 4- arrested four days later 5- convicted and given almost nothing??? Good grief this is a f%^#}up.
Nail clippers: Highly dangerous and must be confiscated!
The phrase we're all looking for here is 'security theatre'. :r[/quoteoll:
Actually Bart, I can see their point. On a previous flight, If you only hadn't peeled your socks off and began digging the jam out of your toenails, setting of the noxious substance alarm, none of this would have happend!

Imagine if he had . . .(gasps) . . .liquids!!
What I don't get, is after they pull the pipe bomb out of this guys' luggage, they didn't call bomb disposal? They didn't clear the airport?
I mean, really. The Israelis saw decades ago that if you want to blow up several plane loads of people, the airport is where they will all be standing in lines at the same time. That's why you get several checks in Israel before you ever get to the ticket counter.
We simply don't take security seriously, and we won't until it bites us in the ass. And maybe not even then because Canadians can be extremely slow learners if the lesson is one they do not like.
According to the noon news the media interviewed the CATSA agent responsible for this whole disaster and he informed the interviewers that he had been advised not to speak about the incident but, did say that it didn't happen at all like it was being portrayed by the media.
Surprise, surprise.
So, the question becomes WTF really happened because the results, no matter who is telling the truth have grave consequences for travel in Canada.
It would take us a year to figure out why everything was blowing up.

Is communistic a real word.....as in can it be found in the Miriam-Webster, Oxford or Cambridge dictionaries?
I was expecting a Communist Revolution, not a Communistic Revolution.
