I'm no big government guy. I do not advocate for the government to solve all of our problems for us. I would have preferred that the store owner blow these two dipshits away, and save us taxpayers the time and money we are going to spend. If you are committing armed robbery as a juvenile, your chances of one day becoming a productive member of society are pretty slim. These two will spend their lives in and out of the system.
That being said..... since we have hate crime laws already on the books, why not use them in cases like this? There have been several incidents in the media lately were prosecutors are charging the defendants with hate crimes due to the way they picked their victims. Had these two gotten away with this crime, everyone would be on the lookout for a couple of muslim girls. Ethnic tensions would increase. Retributions and harassment would be on the rise. A lot of innocent peoples lives would be affected. And why? Because these two punks couldn't be bothered to wear a hoodie or a ski mask like everyone else. They purposely picked a garb that would direct anger at a specific group. We have enough problems without these two stirring the pot. I say throw the book at them. Charge them with every felony they committed, and seek major penalty enhancements with hate crime laws as well.
....but wait, I thought gun ownership reduced crime because criminals won't bother anyone who might even possibly be carrying one??? Doesn't the pro-gun lobby tell us that if more people carried guns, criminals would be too afraid to attack anyone?
On rick's point, I don't think anyone would have assumed the perps were actually muslim girls in burkas, I'm pretty sure people are smart enough to figure out they were in disguise. Besides, presumably the store owner can tell the difference between a man's voice and a woman's.
Philly? Probably some form of TNB. It's not possible to overestimate how stupid some of them actually are. Facepalm pictures are simply too weak to apply in cases like this because the dumbness is at DEFCON 1 levels of intensity.

The victim was the gun shop owner. I doubt they targeted his shop because he was Italian, so I don't see where the hate crime is coming into play.

I think stupid teen stunts is a regular topic on youtube. I also remember reading a report on snake bites in the U.S. The doctor said that almost every snake bite he has treated involved two things: Young men and alcohol! Go figure.
These two idiots are lucky to be alive.

No law can fix .

Depends. Did they just watch a Spike Lee movie?
