Looks like it won't be much longer for him.
To be honest, I thought he died shortly after he had that stroke as I heard nothing about him after that.
For his hardcase reputation he would have been a far better leader for Israel the last few years than Netanyahu has been. Sharon kicked those goddamn settlers out of Gaza and probably would have done the same in the West Bank too. At a minimum he certainly wouldn't have gone on a building spree in areas where the Palestinians have lived for centuries. As much as they hated him Sharon would have been much better for the Muslims to deal with than the cretins who followed him have been. Damndest worst luck possible when that stroke felled him.

He was like Reagan and Thatcher leaders who were willing to get their hands dirty for the better good unlike leaders today who govern by polls and bowing to political groups.
Yes, the "old" warrier/Kibbutzim true believers that built Israel: Sharon, Begun, Rabin, Meyer, Dayan, Ben Gurion really have the sense of utter and total dedication to their country. Netanyahu just looks like an obtuse, mean-spirited CEO of a powerful corporation, rather than a "true believer" like his predecessors obviously were. I may have it wrong but that is how he looks to me.

Netanyahu has some justification worrying about Israel's securty when it's so called greatest ally has stabbed them in the back on numerous occasions.
Either way, he's a patriot to Israel, and I hope things are as painless as possible.

He was equally fearless in the political arena, where he was the father of two parties, Likud and Kadima. As defense minister in 1982, he oversaw the Lebanon War before he was ousted from office in 1983 as a result of the Sabra and Shatilla massacre for which the Kahn Commission of Inquiry found him indirectly responsible.
But he returned to politics. As construction and housing minister from 1990 to 1992, he was responsible for a massive building effort of 144,000 apartments to house the flood of Russian-speaking immigrants from the former Soviet Union bloc. As the father of the settlement movement, he was also instrumental in building thousands of homes in Judea and Samaria and is famous for urging right-wing activists “to run for the hilltops.”
He rose to the post of foreign minister in 1998. In September 2000, as the head of the Likud party, his walk on the Temple Mount was cited by Palestinians as the trigger for the second intifada.
He was elected prime minister in 2001 and under his leadership Israel began to build its security barrier in the West Bank.

In 2005, he left the Likud in anger, choosing to create Kadima with Shimon Peres, Ehud Olmert and Livni.
After his stroke, Kadima went on to win the 2006 election under Olmert’s leadership.
