He's the first and only Canadian to be part of the U.S. Coast Guard team that protects the airspace above the White House. Capt. Jeffery Powell is used to doing search and rescue in Nova Scotia and Newfoundland, but now flies air defence missions over the

How knew that the Coast Guard was involved in air defence? Still, very cool for that guy!

I wonder how big this program is. Isn't Vamp018 serving in the U.S. Coast Guard on some type of exchange program with the Royal Canadian Armed Forces as well?

From the article, it's apparently being run through NORAD, so I would guess it's fairly large.

We've been doing military exchange for years. Chris Hadfield participated in this program in the 80's. This goes for all branches of service as well.

Yep. Over the years I saw lots of Canadians at Pendleton, Fort Hunter Liggett, Fort Irwin, and etc. and the CF saw a lot of me at the -CFB known as Fort Drum.

The news says it's *just* medical waste in the Mexico City thing and they suspect that the thieves may not have even known what they were stealing.

My own suspicion is that the disposal company staged the theft in order that they could dispose of the waste illegally. It is Mexico, after all, and it's not a good idea to underestimate the Mexican knack for corruption.

I'm old enough to remember decades ago when Washington was a half-step up from a hick southern town. But I was in DC last summer. Washington's ghettos have been completely gentrified. Crime now is only a problem when Congress is in session. It's awash in billions in lobbyist and military contractor money, with Mercedes dealers on every corner, so you would now pay top dollar for those stingers.

Not sure where they shipped the poor off to, mostly the prison industrial complex I would guess. Either that or to Philadelphia.
