A Hamilton woman could become $50-million richer – even though she lost her winning lottery ticket a year ago.

I don't understand this. Isn't that part of the process? To have your ticket, check it and see if you win or not? I see a list of unclaimed prizes all the time, why is this particular lottery so important for them to make exceptions and investigate?
