A Royal Canadian Mounted Police officer with a medical marijuana prescription thinks he should be able to smoke the drug while in uniform, but the RCMP says he can't smoke marijuana while in red serge or while wearing his regular working uniform.
An RCMP officer smoking marijuana while in uniform “sets a very poor example for Canadians,” Justice Minister Peter MacKay said Thursday. ... Given the Conservative government’s tough stance on drugs, the notion that a weed-smoking cop is employed by the RCMP is somewhat ironic. In the last few months, the Conservative government has come down hard on Justin Trudeau for advocating legalization and admitting to smoking pot himself at a party after being elected to Parliament. ... It also comes as Parliament prepares to debate a crack down on a drug of another sort: alcohol. The NDP has tabled a private member’s bill to allow police to conduct random breathalyzer testing at roadblocks, regardless of whether the driver shows signs of impairment.
“My observation is the same as for politicians, police: They fall in a similar category in the sense that it sets a very poor example to flout the law,” MacKay said
He's not breaking any law. He has an exemption from the controlled substances act. Laws against driving while intoxicated still apply though. It's frightening that the Justice Minister is confused about that.
According to the RCMP, “any member on a mind-altering drug — such as marijuana, OxyContin (and) Dilaudid — is not permitted to perform operational duties, including carrying a firearm or operating a police vehicle
Is there any reason to believe he's carrying a firearm or operating a police vehicle?

Alcohol one of Canada’s top health threats: Study
The report, Strategies to Reduce Alcohol-Related Harms and Costs in Canada: A Comparison of Provincial Policies, was published Wednesday by the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health.
Lead author Norman Giesbrecht, a senior scientist at CAMH, said it is mind-boggling how lax harm-reduction policies are across the country.
Giesbrecht’s report, which notes 80 per cent of Canadians drink, ranks provinces on 10 key harm-reduction policies, including pricing, availability, marketing, legal drinking age and warning labels. ... Alcohol accounted for 8 per cent of all deaths (under 70 years old) and 7 per cent of all hospital stays in 2002, and between 1996 and 2010, total consumption increased by 13 per cent.
While those other drugs are legal as well, having an officer impaired is a bad idea without considering the optics of it.
I'd love so see: "You're under arrest, pffffffffffffffffffft, for smoking marijuana."
it wouldn`t be safe to leave doughnuts unattended in the detachment
I don't think that's ever a good idea at a police station!

No BBQ's at home for this guy.
All kidding aside the reality is that this guy should be the poster boy for medical marijuana to be dispensed in pill form.
