Seriously WTF? If this were a movie at this point the heroes would be looking to see if the guy was given some sort of drug to make him go completely off the deep end. I like a spot of port every now and then but I don't choke people with my own clothing if they decline to serve me some.

He was given a drug: CH3CH2OH used as a psychoactive drug and one of the oldest recreational drugs still used by humans.
