Members of the Asian-Canadian community are demanding an apology from Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau, following his comments on Thursday expressing admiration for China's "basic dictatorship."
New politicains like to think that they can change the system by speaking frankly. They soon find out that extemporization is a critical weakness. That is why such a lot of fuss and bother goes in to managing communications these days. Everything is recorded. Everything. And this comment will echo and haunt Trudeau for long time to come.
The correct answer, for Mr. Trudeau's benefit, when asked which government you admire is "Canada." Alternately, you can read a random, unrelated clause from your printed-out talking points.
Trudeau has a large and growing part of the electorate sick of the Harper cynical brand of government, who don't trust the NDP to run things. It's time for him to stop fucking around and start hitting some base runs.
The Liberal leader was asked which nation he admired most. He responded: "There's a level of admiration I actually have for China. Their basic dictatorship is actually allowing them to turn their economy around on a dime."
Like father like son? Ok question time. In terms of turning an economy around, is 70 years a dime??

I don't know about a dime, but it's a helluva lot faster than us.
Beijing built three subway lines (not stations but entire lines) in three years. Edmonton MIGHT get three more lines by 2030.
"fifeboy" said Nice to see the CBC covering the negative aspect of the story instead of fawning over their boy.
Or perhaps you were just wrong about the CBC
Or, perhaps the CBC did not actually cover the negative aspects of this story.
Perhaps it can be shown how other stories from the broader CBC network were actively trying to spin the story to the positive for Justin in reaction to the guys who actually broke the story of another gaffe from the shiny pony. Any final admission to the negative aspects might be seen as more the CBC finally giving in to the guys who were actively presenting the negative side, and refused to go away.

We already know what country Justin Trudeau admires most, besides Canada: China.
Not for its culture or history or even its economic growth. He admires it for its political system. That was the question. And that was his answer:
“You know, there’s a level of of admiration I actually have for China because their basic dictatorship is allowing them to actually turn their economy around on a dime and say ‘we need to go green fastest … we need to start investing in solar.’ ”
That’s a shocking answer — factually false about Chinese pollution, morally blind to China’s brutality, ignorant about what values are essential for a would-be Canadian prime minister. But no one in the crowd — this was at Trudeau’s ladies’ night fundraiser — even expressed surprise, let alone objection, to this startling statement.
Neither did the Liberal auxiliary campaign team — that is, the many reporters in the room. Not one media outlet reported the story, other than the Sun News Network.
It was only after the QMI Agency’s story on Trudeau’s gaffe went viral that other media grudgingly reported it. But not all other media — the CBC’s national news waited three days before doing a perfunctory story on the subject, implying that Stephen Harper feels just the same way.
And as of last night, the country’s largest newspaper, the Toronto Star, hasn’t seen fit to write a single word on the matter.
But the news embargo on Trudeau’s gaffe was broken by QMI Agency, and the story went viral. So the Media Party switched from pretend-it-didn’t-happen mode to spin mode...

First off, JT didn't say he admired China the most, he said he had a "a level of of admiration". That doesn't mean #2 in the world to anyone except the professional partisans over at SunNews.
Secondly, he's tying red herrings (brutality, morality, pollution, etc) to JT's claim, which was actually that China is leading the world in renewable energy. In that case, JT is definitely correct;
Made up controversy? Trudeau is his worst political enemy. He needs to learn how to shut up. When your own words are used against you, it's you that's creating the controversy, not the media.

I agree that dictatorships suck big time, but they sure get things done.
The only problem is that you or I might disagree with their priorities.

China has plenty of skeletons in its closet, but renewable energy certainly isn't one of them.
This is nothing but a made up controversy to sell crappy newspapers.

Also, where do they meet, and is there free beer?
