Pugash added a version of a line Blair used several times last week when discussing the investigation: ?Our job is to investigate without fear or favour.?
Therein lies the problem, they rarely follow this rule when dealing with politicians and have followed their own brand of political interference for decades (at all levels of government). It is why many politicians; and in some cases their wives, have been involved in criminal activities in the past and the police "choose" not to lay charges.
Good for his brother, this incident could really help clean up Toronto in so many different ways.
What I don't understand is if the Chief can't release the video because it might prejudice an open court case, why can he offer open opinion on what's in the video. Isn't that actually more prejudicial, in that it offers authority to a particular opinion of what might be in the video?

Exactly. So instead of the entire world seeing the video and making their own judgement, he prejudices the interpretation of a video while not allowing anyone to see it. It is HE that is hiding behind the fact that it is court evidence, not the mayor...or else he would not have had a press conference to mention the video at all.
I am glad that enough people are understanding what is at stake here. Some of us regular folk have already experienced interference in our lives without the courtesy of a charge or even an accusation; many of those in the security apparatus (and more specifically those in leadership positions) have run interference with rights, legal norms and the democratic integrity of the system forever. Does anything think this entire charade is for the "benefit of the people"? Right. It doesn't fly based on Blair's leadership record over the last few years.
I say this without a shred of dishonestly, I expect the same Rights and processes to be in place for all levels of government, for all provinces and their respected democratically elected leaders and most importantly for all citizens.
Blair was never Police Chief material to begin with. He has no backbone to speak of, and would rather pussyfoot around all the contentious issues that a police chief is required to do something about. More proof of his incompetence was the G20 conference a little while back.
It's clear he can't make the big decisions, nor does it seem he ever will.
