Just because you have a permit to grow pot doesn't give you the right to grow it wherever you want. Just because you ahve a permit to smoke pot doesn't mean you can smoke it wherever you want. The permit means you are exempt from prosecution as long as you follow the restrictions, it doesn't mean your rights trump everyone else's. A house is no place to grow crops. That's why greenhouses were created.
They did follow the restrictions, they were growing fewer plants than legally permitted. Besides, I dunno about where you live but very few apartments have greenhouses available, particularly those situated above a strip mall.
What these two needed to do though was pay their rent!

Oh I highly doubt the landlord was willing to allow his residential unit to be used for commercial purposes, including significant changes to the layout and the utilities of the apartment, and the structural damage that comes from it.
The Landlord and Tenant Board should be fucking destroyed as an organization if these two, receiving over $2,000 in disability payments per month, missed even ONE month of their rent. Hilariously, they gave them a stay in their eviction BECAUSE OF DAMAGE THEY DID TO HIS FUCKING BUILDING, he gets another order of eviction, and ITS STAYED as well!
Fuck shitty tenants. I hope the Chatham landlord realizes the fucking shit he's going to get with these two assholes, along with every other fucking landlord in Ontario.
I know I'm weird but I always paid rent first! But you know rent payed to the landlord in the form of a chit from disability or w/e org it comes from will make people feel bad and hurt their feelings... food stamps too
but but in a green house they might not get their sleep time!!!!
Sleeping plants... must have been high as a kite at the time.
"Dude... my plants need their mellow time."
Wait until they link Doug and Rob Ford to that Etobicoke spa.

So what? Just because the place you want to rent doesn't have the facilities needed to grow your pot doesn't mean you can just do what you want. The rest of the world doesn't have to bend over backwards to support your habit, and like I said the little piece of paper the government gives them doesn't give them any more special rights. Go rent a place in a rural community if you want to grow crops.

If they have an exemption from the controlled substances act, what law did they violate?

Lots of people grow plants indoors that ain't pot. Is that your suggestion to them as well?
So I guess since you don't like their "habit" they should just give up the pot and become addicted to narcotic painkillers instead?
Not to nitpick, but how does toking up every time you feel some physical discomfort differ from taking a 'narcotic' painkiller? Aren't opiates and pot both narcotics, and aren't they both being used to treat/mask/alleviate pain? Just curious as to why you are differentiating.
Habituation and addiction are basically the same. Those who toke, eventually require their pot to cope. It may not be a physical addiction that opiates create in some people, but it does become a psychological addiction which can be problematic as well.

Well, I can only speak for myself but when my back was broken in 1992 I can only shudder to think where I'd be right now if I continued with the narcotics treatment after being released from the hospital.
I have a few friends who are on that train to hell. Even when they have relatively pain-free days, they still pop their pills because of the physical addiction. For me, when I have relatively pain-free days I rarely smoke on those days.
Oh and to answer your question, pot is NOT a narcotic. Aspirin has been/is used to treat/mask/alleviate pain. Is aspirin a narcotic? What about Toradol?
Actually, that little piece of paper doesn't restrict them as to where they can grow it, just the amount they can grow.
Correct. However, that piece of paper doesn't give them the right to break rules within the Landlord and Tenant act and violate electrical codes, putting the other residents of the building at a safety risk.
Would you feel comfortable living above or below a place with live wires running randomly through the unit with the walls filled with mold?

Very true. Most people that grow plants indoors don't damage the property nor do they put other residents at risk with their actions.
