I would be surprised if most child disappearances are caused by the Rom - children disappear where there are no or very few Rom. The are just stolen for trafficking purposes by gangs, wind up as slaves in Saudi Arabia or a brothel anywhere in the world or as a pet for some rich guy. Especially the blondies. And not just girls, lots of boys/young men go missing too, but we don't worry about them.

Court rulings against desegregation are not enforced. Yet in Hodmezovasarhely, a city in southern Hungary, local authorities have desegregated education with enormous success, says Mr Ujlaky.
Without a decent education, Roma will never be able to better themselves. Their average life expectancy is 10-12 years less than for non-Roma. It is an enormous waste of human potential.

It seems to suggest that in the hundreds of years there's been Gypsies, nobody's ever thought of that before? Or is he saying nobody's been progressive enough to implement the policies necessary? Because, God knows, there's enough progressives around now (some think they're a much bigger problem than the Gypsies) that surely one could expect them to get that lack of progressive policies problem under control. Except whatever they're doing doesn't seem to be working, does it?

I don't think there's much discussion to be had about other ways of dealing with them, unless you're into the genocide thing, so the discussion has to be about how to get them and their host societies to arrive at a mutually agreeable set of expectations for each other.

Seems Martin thinks the fault lies only with the Roma. You only need to look at the article I quoted to know it's a two way street. European authorities need to do a much better job of protecting the Roma and making sure their kids go to school so they can join the regular workforce. That will take both carrots and sticks. No it won't be easy, progress has been made, more needs to be done.
I certainly didn't say they should have special rights, in fact just the opposite. Just as I don't want special rights for our Natives. I just recognized that special efforts are required to eradicate years of entrenched racism. The Roma, like our Natives, have to make the effort to integrate. The stick should come out when they don't. But Europe needs to do a much better job of helping them do that, just as we need to with the Natives.

OK so here's a pack of them coming in off the plane. 'These folks look like gypsies,' we think quietly to ourselves. Do we as security check them for priors, smuggled items, and phony IDs, or do we wave them through, like we would if they weren't Gypsies...or do we just do what we did for the Muslims, and think 'these guys have been doing bad things, so let's skin frisk everybody getting on the plane except them'.
Progressive policies of phony "fairness" don't work. They create bigger problem.

Nobody is talking about them emigrating here. It's up to Europe to solve this problem. If we're getting phony refugee claims from the Check Republic or Mexico or where have you, it's up to us to have the stones to send them back in short order, instead of having all those layers of appeals.
