This is newsworthy and I think there is alot for people to digest with this story. I would normally find it humorous if not for my own dealings with CSIS and how they operate. Let's just say "National Security" is quite low on their list of priorities...

So many ironies about this story. First, CSIS is most certainly the reason such a "movement" exists at all, they send their under-employed undercovers out and promote this type of anti-government activity to line their own pockets and institutional value; second, the story is being advertised by the CBC, otherwise known as the CSIS Broadcasting Corporation. They are trying to make this big news, just as they tried to make the Heritage Front of the 1990's big news and the Reform Party "movement" in the 1990s' (do the research, the lingo in using the word movement in both instances is probably not by coincidence).

I always get suspicious when the author of a piece of "journalism" doesn't have a name...this is simply written by "CBC news".

Let's be honest, any clown who thinks they can live free in a country without paying taxes and contributing is either suffering from delusion or some other form of mental issue. This isn't "news", it isn't a "movement"...it's a cash cow for the security apparatus to say "look, you need us to protect you from all of these radical, secret anarchists".

Look for a law that is broken, take them to court and move on to more serious issues such as...REAL National Security issues perhaps?

They are Domestic Terrorists. I guess you haven't heard about the spate of these pricks in Alberta of late... Try to stay objective....

The Freemen movement should be listed as a terrorist organization and dealt with appropriately.

They have not made a tin foil hat worthy of shockedcanadian yet. Someone really should get on that.

Takes a tiny story about CSIS having a meeting and turns it into yet another misinformed anti CSIS rant.

Sounds like someone applied for a CSIS job and was rejected...on legitimate grounds, I'd suggest.

Funny how the media can call something a 'movement' or say that people live in a 'compound' and suddenly the sheeple just step right in line with the narrative and support carte blanche assaults on liberty.

Two random squatters being attributed with a name does not a 'movement' make.

Shocked Canadian is perhaps jumping to conclusions here about the CSIS but he does make a valid point that the recent meme in the Canadian media about the so-called 'Freemen' does appear to be coordinated. You folks should be reserved about jumping on that particular bandwagon because you might be giving someone licence to do something you'd otherwise find objectionable.

Case in point is the post:

The Freemen movement should be listed as a terrorist organization and dealt with appropriately.

Maybe QBall means they should be investigated. Maybe someone else will consider this comment as licence to murder some of these people in predawn military-style commando raids.

If you don't think CSIS is not involved in engaging and encouraging such activities (part of the new "lone wolf threat" campaign), then I have an eiffel tower to sell you...

These people are clowns. No different than any other group of clowns. Find the laws they broke, charge them with the broken law and move on...if this is what CSIS is focusing their attention on (part of the "low hanging fruit strategy"), than we are all in DEEP trouble.

We get bulletins about the 'Freemen' all the time at my new job. This department is frequently a target of rage when these people realize they really do have to pay their taxes, just like everyone else. Or they go to jail.

These people are hardly coherent, let alone organized. I too have concerns that our attentions are yet again directed to another percieved enemy, instead of actual problems. Taking condos from Grannies and occupying structures that people need for actual income I think is the real problem, not 'terrorism'.

I mean really, what violence are they threatening in the name of political change (the actual definition of terrorist)? They just believe the law has been corrupted, and therefore are trying to 'right' the law based on their interpretations of it. Some might actually believe that. Others might be taking advantage of it. Leave them alone, and they leave you alone. That's isn't 'terrorism'.

It is according to the FBI. So why we haven't followed suit is baffling.

What have you seen in Canada that rises to the level of gangsterism, never mind terrorism? This is a few delusional nutbars. When they break the law, have the police deal with them. In the case of the tenant, that really was a landlord, tenant dispute. In BC she would have gone to the rentalsman and gotten a 10 day eviction notice for nonpayment of rent, and then got the Sheriff to evict the guy. IF he then makes a fuss, time for the police to step in.

Let's not devalue the term terrorist by using it on everybody that does something we don't like. I think the HA are a lot more "terrorist" than these guys, and the courts can't even find them to be a criminal organization.

I think south of the border the 'freemen' are a bit more militant, I think I read there was even an interaction with the police that resulted in police being shot and killed. Ted Kaczynski could be argued was a freeman, considering his disdain for modern society and government.

Up here they are more of the deadbeat variety.

The Manitoba government is taking the first step to have an infamous motorcycle gang declared a criminal organization.

Justice Minister Andrew Swan announced on Thursday that his department has submitted an application to have the Hells Angels Motorcycle Club added to a schedule of criminal groups.

"We are not only the first province, we believe we're the first jurisdiction in North America to take this innovative step to deal with organized crime," Swan told CBC News.

If the province's petition is successful, lawyers would no longer have to prove in future court cases that the organization is involved in criminal activity.
    ...
Swan said he hopes the federal government will follow suit with a similar process for declaration.

No investigation is needed. Any organization who believes they can reside in a country and feel they do not have to obey it's laws, and preaches this doctrine, is a terrorist organization in my book. The fact that the only exposure we've had to this organization so far involves a bunch of lunatics who have tried to steal other people's property is minor. The fact that I have seen no representative of the "movement", if there is even a leadership component, come out and denounce the acts of these people is more telling than anything else. If no one wants to defend the movement then it's obviously not one worth tolerating. BTW If someone wants to take my comments as permission to commit murder then I cannot be held responsible for the actions of crazy people.
