Global warming 'extremely likely' to be man-made, UN panel says

Scientists can now say with extreme confidence that human activity is the dominant cause of the global warming observed since the 1950s, a new report by an international scientific group said Friday.

And we're not 100% certain that cigarettes are harmful. But finding common sense among climate change deniers is like picking gnat shit out of pepper.

Awesome the science is in, again. This should keep them quiet until the first snow fall.

"An old rule says that climate-relevant trends should not be calculated for periods less than around 30 years," said Thomas Stocker, co-chair of the group that wrote the report.

Well that's a nice "rule of thumb" and all but one would think that with the ever increasing use of fossil fuels, including during that "15 year hiatus from rising temps", that if we had such a direct impact on global warming, the numbers would have continued to rise. It's not like the world suddenly started burning less oil, coal and wood before that 15 year period.

The IPCC is not a leftie organization? This will shut them up for five years so they can make up some more excuses as to why there still hasn't been any global warming in the last 20.

I think if nothing else this report should open peoples eyes to the fact that atmospheric temperatures are not the only consideration when determining the rate at which the globe is warming. Most of the earth's heat content is found in the ocean and so I believe it is a far better indicator of how fast we are warming:

This is just the press release for the Summary for Policy Makers. It has nothing to do with whatever science might be contained in the actual report. That will trickle out bit by bit over the next number of years. Even there some of the tricks contained in the last report weren't revealed until just recently - activist flavored, NGO non-science masquerading as science, from organizations like the World Wildlife Organization, bogus claims about the Himalayas, activist kids pretending to be profs, and such.

The Summary for Policy Makers has been put together by political motivated representatives who have been secreted in a room over the last few weeks bickering over every sentence that will appear in the political representation of the science which is the Summary for Policy Makers. That's what was in the press release today. That's all it is. In one of the early Summary for Policy Makers the press release claimed a human cause to radical warming when the actual science section of the report recommended the exact opposite.

However, the report does alter a key figure from the 2007 study. The temperature range given for a doubling of CO2 in the atmosphere, called equilibrium climate sensitivity, was 2.0C to 4.5C in that report.

In the latest document, the range has been changed to 1.5C to 4.5C. The scientists say this reflects improved understanding, better temperature records and new estimates for the factors driving up temperatures.

Well at least they're getting closer. The sensitivity range should be around 1.

He's tax-sucking? How? The Nature of Things is, other than Hockey Night in Canada, is the only consistent money maker for the CBC.
