It is an odd location for a war memorial ... and a sort of unusual one, as well. It is unusual in that it is a spontaneous memorial created by moved citizens rather than an "official", government sanctioned cenotaph or the like. It's a shame that certain portions of our population are so out of sync. with their own history and just don't "get it". I attribute this sort of thing to inadequate schooling.

That's probably spot on ... just stupid kids with stupid parents. I'll bet you that these were white kids doing this ... those self appointed "anarchist" kids from rich, white households. Almost all of the trouble and vandalism that we have around here in Halton comes from super-spoiled rich white kids who think that sunshine emanates from their arseholes.
It's the same type and mindset that started that Vancouver Hockey riot that still smarts, so.

Actually, once again you're wrong, there was nothing "spontaneous" about the creation of the mural.....
Toronto Police Legal Graffiti Art coordinator, Const. Scott Mills, came up with the idea for the Highway of Heroes project.
Mills had been giving Pacho’s friend and fellow artist Kedre Brown a drive home one day after finishing work on another graffiti art project. Mills says they got stuck in traffic when a motorcade for a fallen soldier was arriving at the coroner’s office.
“Kedre said to me, ‘Scott, what is this?’ And I said, ‘Get out of the truck and I’ll show you.’ ”
Brown, 21, says after that experience he was immediately on board with the idea.

Wonder if those who did the graffiti over it had any idea what it actually was.
Maybe they thought it was just another 'pretty picture' and/or part of Sushi Sky.

Okay. I am wrong once again. It's only the Internet.
BTW, I would consider that to be "spontaneous" as opposed to something from, say, the Commonwealth War Graves Commission or the like. A citizen decided to honour these fallen soldiers on his own. I don't know how you define spontaneous.
A lot of these problems have little to do with schooling, they have to deal with parenting and role models in the kids lives. They apparently have none.
