    WTF. 8O

I think Chelsea is gonna be pretty disappointed to find out that he or she's going to the stockade and not some healthcare clinic that specializes in gender reassignment therapy.

Maybe he should have thought about experiencing this life changing decision before he gave those classified documents to Mr. Assange the reclusive alleged rapist.

If this is indeed fact and he really expects the Gov't to change their policies and give him free medical treatment for his sex change while he's incarcerated it makes a person wonder why his attorney's didn't use insanity as his primary defence?

'Chelsea' is one mixed up dude...on more than one front.
    Sad really.

He must be protected in prison, and not 'fed to the wolves'.
The 'macho military types' should be respecting him as a human being.

If I were him I'd just be dressing as a woman for a while, taking no hormones, and seeing if I liked being a women long term.
Once the sex change surgery is done there's no going back.

Assange...alleged rapist, allegedly having had consentual sex in the bed with the woman the night before, then still in the bed in the morning doing it again while the woman was asleep, without a condom...as I remember it.
Rape, in Sweden, so the law seems to be.

Two women, he was with while in Sweden.
Didn't seem to be any rape allegations until the women found out about each other...and the WikiLeaks drama broke?

Assange, another one who should never have left Australia's shores.
Now look what's become of him.
    'All' his own fault basically.

One is asking for trouble treating women as sexual playthings...and starting a war with the US govt.

20 years ago maybe but in today’s society the LGBT groups would have denounced this type of defense saying that it was labeling transgenders as a mental issue.

No shit. I don't make a habit out of second guessing people motives but I think both he and Manning seriously underestimated the wrath of the US Government and it's security agencies.

This is the same Gov't that invaded a sovereign country based on sketchy facts or outright mistruths, regularly spies on all it's citizens, and has no compunction about terminating those same citizens with drone strikes if they feel they pose a threat to national security.

So, for these two to think they were above the long arm of the US Government and protected by virtue of what they had revealed or could reveal is just plain ludicrous, especially since blackmail doesn't normally work well as a long term life insurance policy. Although given the facts it should come as no surprise that the US Government is hell bent on eliminating the threat these two pose and exacting a large measure of revenge for being aggrieved by them.

    Why?

I didn't say the sex change choice was the mental health issue. I said that thinking the US Government would pay for it after being convicted under the espionage act and after releasing the largest set of restricted documents ever leaked to the public was. :D

So, this has nothing to do with the LGBT and everything to do with someone so whacked out that he thinks the people who are going to incarcerate him and who's national security he supposedly threatened are going to accommodate his wishes.

I don't know if the Army will give him the hormone treatment he desires, but if it is any consolation to him his fellow prisoners will be very happy to treat him as a woman.

I'm pretty sure I read yesterday that army won't be giving her her hormone therapy while in prison.

That's what I read as well, but that doesn't mean he can't get it.
If his loved ones are willing to pay for it, I don't see why he couldn't get it. Just not at anyone else's expense.

I also read (or heard...) that his lawyers are not using it as an excuse or a defense tactic, but more as disclosure.

Sorry, but your political correctness seems to have degraded your language center. Klinger is still a dude.

Most likely he will have to wait till after he is out of prison to have this done. So in about 7yrs they can pay for it to happen. He still has an auto appeal to take place in about 6 months so there is a chance his sentence will be reduced and he may get out even earlier.

So while I think Miss Manning did the right thing by releasing the secrets it's quite clear that Manning's mental state is severely compromised by sexual identity issues.

That said, now the question becomes why this person was permitted access to all manner of sensitive information?

We will never get the answer to that. You know as well as I do that top brass never wants to admit a screw up. One to this scale is a freaking nuke to many in the military.

I'm not sure how much of his gender issues was really a problem prior to his confinment. Then again maybe his mental state took a huge nose dive under the stress of confinment and the trial its self. He would not be the first person to crack under those type of pressures. Seems to me they appeared after the stress situations came about.

For the same reason why he was permitted to defend you from 'the bad guys' at war.

I just wiki'd the guy. Typed 'Bradley Manning' in the google search bar.
