An independent audit of Senator Pamela Wallin's expenses has found ineligible claims amounting to as much as $140,000, and that the number of those claims is in the hundreds, CBC News had learned.
BY MATT GEHL, THE STARPHOENIX AUGUST 12, 2013 When the legislation wrecking the Canadian Wheat Board was making its way through the House and Senate in 2011 it became clear that neither of the two standing committees on agriculture were going to come to the Prairies. As a result I joined nearly 40 farmers from across the Prairies in going to Ottawa at our own expense to meet with elected and appointed representatives.
As a member of the Canadian Wheat Board Alliance, my job was to call every senator to set up a time when they could meet with concerned farmers. Over three weeks I made hundreds phone calls and was only able to set up a couple of dozen meetings.
Many senators were unavailable while some outright refused to meet with us, including Sen. Pamela Wallin. This is the same Wallin who trumpets her roots in Wadena.
Maybe she has been away from the Prairies for so long that she has forgotten one of the great traits of Saskatchewan is its hospitality. We weren't asking her to fly to Saskatchewan to meet with us - we went to her. Yet she wouldn't give us the time of day.
If Wallin showed up unannounced at any farm in Saskatchewan chances are she would be invited in for a cup of coffee. Yet when Saskatchewan farmers were at her office doorstep for three weeks, she would not extend that same courtesy.
Wallin insists she represents Saskatchewan in Ottawa. If she is such a tireless representative of the people of Saskatchewan, why would she not meet with Saskatchewan farmers who had paid for their own flights, hotels and meals to make it as easy as possible to have a meeting with her?
I could forgive Wallin if her troubles were the result of a clerical error, but I can't forgive her because she is fraudulently claiming her expenses for being nothing more than an appointed cheerleader for the PMO.
It seems that the only people being represented by Sen. Wallin are her benefactors in the Conservative Party of Canada.
What I can't believe is that these former journalists ... Duffy and Wallin .. seem surprised at getting caught. They of all people must have realized that people are watching.
... or maybe we haven't been, we have only caught few "sacrificial" Senators and the whole Upper House is rotten to the core.

I tend to think people are mostly good, and I've checked into the good work some Senators do. I think that most Senators are good hardworking people, with the ocassional leech. I am of the opinion that Harper put these bufoons in the Senate knowing they would screw up, and then he'd have public opinion on his side to reform the Senate without the Senate needing to approve.
He's even asked the Supreme Court to rule on whether Parlimant has this power.

I've only ever met one Senator and he was, famously, one of the best in our history: Eugene Forsey. I spent two days an a train ride with him when I was a teenager. What a wise and intelligent man he was. He was more than a simple partisan bagman, appointed for his reward.
p.s. I'm sure that he would have a lot to say about the authority of the Supreme Court commenting on Parliamentary power.
Looks good on her. I REALLY hope charges are laid. No going to lie, I'll enjoy watching her trip through the mud.
The Senate is also restricting Wallin’s travel to only direct or immediate connecting flights between Ottawa and Saskatchewan, the province she represents in the Senate. “All other itineraries must be pre-approved,” Comeau said, reading from the report. “Travel claims submitted for reimbursement by Sen. Wallin will continue to be monitored from the date of the adoption of this report for a period of not less than one year,” Comeau said. The report has also been referred to “the proper authorities,” he said, meaning the RCMP.

When I was finishing my BA, one of my profs was selected as a senator - Douglas Roche. A former PC, Chretien picked him to represent Alberta and he did a fantastic job if you ask me. He taught classes Monday, flew to Ottawa Monday night, then stayed there until Friday evening, whereupon he flew to New York, Geneva or some other place to discuss disarmament (he is an expert on the topic). Then he flew back to Edmonton Sunday night and started it all over.
He maintained that schedule for almost a decade!

It certainly wouldn't surprise me if Harper did that - although in his heart of hearts I doubt he expected that most of those caught would be from his own party.
But the good news for the left is that a Liberal is leading in at least one category.
So, now that we have gotten the scoring race cleared up and Sidney Crosby isn't on it. Who the fuck is stupid enough to think that these three ingrates are the only ones illegally sucking off the teat of the taxpayer?
If I was a betting man I'd say most of the House of Sober Second Thought is fraught with padded expense accounts, unaccounted for travel expenses, illegal perks and party affiliation has less to do with it than greed.
It's time to wake up and smell the coffee. The Senate is an archaic institution that is being used to reward the greedy and ungrateful at the expense of the taxpayers of Canada and the only Senators left in Canada should be the ones playing hockey in Ottawa.

The liberal refuses to pay it back and will cost us double what he owes in court costs.
Typical...."I'm entitled to my entitlements"
Senator Mac Harb received $55K loan from businessman.
Doesn't really matter though when you think about it.
They're all low life scuzzbuckets and no matter whether they fight it or not, like the immigrant one intends, their unethical and immoral antics are probably going to cause the demise of the Canadian Senate and with it the anachronistic system of rewarding the party faithful with a lifestyle and perks that most real Canadians could only hope for.
So maybe we should be thanking these three for their contribution to fixing the Senate once and for all.

One month in the high-flying life of Pamela Wallin
While her parliamentary colleagues passed 18 bills into law during a frenzied rush to summer in June 2009, Sen. Pamela Wallin, the former TV anchor now embroiled in scandal over improper expense claims, spent much of that month in the skies. The details of Wallin’s furious travel schedule that time period fill just three of the 95 pages of the Deloitte audit submitted to the Senate, but they raise serious questions about how she claimed to spend her time as a senator.
Consider the four days starting June 8, during which Wallin’s schedule took her back and forth between Ottawa and Toronto four times at a cost of $2,870.55. (Incidentally, that’s despite the fact that senators, their spouses and children all receive free travel on Via Rail, including upgrades to business class.) Her office told auditors that, while in Toronto, Wallin participated in two meetings on Senate business—one with a World Bank official, the other with a New York-based marketing firm. A Deloitte audit found no evidence those meetings occurred, but did discover Wallin attended a University of Guelph convocation ceremony in her capacity as the school’s chancellor. Deloitte said Wallin should pay back almost every penny she claimed on that trip.
Within days, she was back in the air on another round trip between Toronto and Ottawa, and then, later in the month, the senator travelled to Calgary on private business, and eventually to Saskatoon and Wadena, Sask., where she maintains her primary residence. In Saskatoon, Wallin rented a car for 11 days and billed the Senate. In total, Wallin initially claimed $11,835.73 in travel expenses for June 2009, of which Deloitte determined she must pay back $8,223.68. So far, the senator has reimbursed less than one-third that amount. If that month had marked the end of Wallin’s questionable expense-account claims, she might not be facing an RCMP investigation today. But the Deloitte audit is filled with such examples.

Good old Mr. Marc Harb who for the record happens to be a Chretien appointee and owes over $231,000 in arrears for fraudulent expenses
