An unusually high number of bottlenose dolphins are dying off the east coast of the United States this summer, the deadliest period for the sea mammals since a virus killed off more than 700 in the late 1980s, federal officials said Thursday.

    I wonder if that huge crude spill in the Gulf last year has crept into the Gulf Stream and is moving North at some depth. These animals do not like hydrocarbons.

    They've also made a connection with warships "pinging" with active sonar and disoriented cetaceans. Have there been any big naval exercises down there, recently?
