There was a a fairly affluent, yet disenfranchised, black middle class in the RSA during the Apartheid Era. They were educated, and running the townships. Is there even a single post-colonial success story in sub-Saharan Africa? Between the AIDS epidemic and the tribalist Marxist kleptocracies everywhere they all of them seem to be variations of the same basket case ranging from the high end of the scale at "merely crappy" to the low end or "murderous, abyssmal, and utterly hellish". I met a very nice couple from South Africa, moved to Switzerland.
Lots of them on the move now.
They still hold some farmland out in the country, but they rarely even visit it
anymore, just waiting for 'land redistribution' to start, then South Africa

While I feel bad for Mr. Mandela I am disgusted by the whole 'Nelson Mandela Death Watch' that's going on the media. It's rather ghoulish.

It's reminiscent of when the media vultures were circling Francisco Franco waiting for him to die and Saturday Night Live lampooned them with parody updates in the weeks after Franco passed...
