I think as far as the money goes, too bad he should be able to keep it. But the article does have a point about a public official being paid to speak on matters that regarding public policy such as; furniture for seniors in old folks homes, this home I'm sure receives money from the province in one capacity or another

    Hence, a conflict of interest.

    Who's his mentor, Marc Harb?

You'd think common sense would prevail here and he'd pay back the money just for the optics alone. He's coming off as greedy and petty especially considering the Charity event was a flop and he might have been part of the problem.

I wonder how long it's gonna take his handlers to teach him that image is everything and his sucks. :D

MP's shouldn't be allowed to charge for speaking engagements. When they're retired or no longer sit in the House...that's a different story but this has to change.

I usually attend an charity event in Toronto yearly to support War Veterans and there's always a MP and MPP in attendance to speak and they don't charge for their appearance. I'll note that the MP is Conservative and the MPP is Liberal.

He needs a new handler. The one he's got isn't doing their job.

Just the fact that while in office he is getting paid to speak sounds wrong to me. I can't explain why but is he not already getting paid by the public while he holds office. I understand fund raisers for campains and things like that. Doing a charity fund raiser while in office and getting paid to do it just does not feel right to me.

Understood he doesn't have to return the money, the charity made a deal. It would be a tremendous gesture of good will on his part if he gave it back (less his expenses). It's not like he needs the money, most people in his bracket give to charity, not take from it.

I know some of his paid gigs have been during company time (the House was sitting). Does anyone know if this particular gig was double dipping or the House wasn't in session?

No taxpayer money was used for Mr. Trudeau to attend the event

Hmmmm. I beg to differ. He is paid for by the taxpayer, and if he is 'busy' doing paid fundraising stuff, he is not doing what he is paid for by the taxpayer.

No PM in office should be allowed to have paid gigs on the side. No one on welfare can without being cut, why should he? Take that $20k out of his salary.

    Apparently yes.

    http://globalnews.ca/news/643856/brad-w ... king-fees/

    Regarding the Sask event.
The event was held on Monday, April 30, 2012. Records show Trudeau missed two votes in the House that day.

Trudeau’s fee also took up almost half the speaker’s fees – and there were nine other speakers, including Saskatoon MLA Rob Norris who did not accept money

The more I learn about this guy, the more I get the impression he really doesn't give a shit about the country. It's a no brainer this is a conflict of interest, and the rest of us would get fired from our jobs if we pulled the same stunt. I wonder what it's going to take for him to stop doing it.

Conservative Saskatoon MP Brad Trost agreed he would never accept fees as a sitting MP.

“We contribute, we don’t take. That should be the nature of our job. Our job is to contribute and represent the community,” he said.

That's bad, how is it deemed ethical to moonlight when the House is in session. I wonder if the ruling he got took that into consideration. If any other type of employee skipped a few days to earn money elsewhere, he'd be fired.

WTF is different than going home and selling Amway after work. Who gives a shit?
And fuck the non-profits. If they want a politician their local MP does it for free. If they want a specific Leader - pay.
    You WANT? You BUY.

FAFAIK... He was selling Amway while he was supposed to do his job that is paid for by tax payers. In real life, that would cost you the latter and you can sell Amway 24/7.

What a sleezeball. Grow up and show us your a better man before you ask for my vote to help you run this country.

I see no ethical way for him to keep the funds.

Except he skipped work (while still being paid) for the speaking engagements and charged them 20K for it. No MP should charge for speaking, he's still an MP.

Blame the charity for the shortfall, not Trudeau. It wasn't up to him to assess whether the charity's money was being well spent by engaging his services.

On the separate issue of whether he should have been giving paid speeches as a sitting MP, I think he's way out of line, especially if he missed sittings of the House to do so.
