No 'monster truck maniac,' man accused of attempted murder of cop says

Brockington says an RCMP officer showed up. The cop immediately approached with gun drawn, commanding him out of the truck. There was no discussion or reasonable debate, he says. "He didn't talk to me, didn't ask me anything," Brockington claims. "Dude, you need to move. Either shoot me or get the f--- out of the way," he says he responded.

Brockington says he was passing through Manitoba, headed towards London, Ont., to see his bride-to-be when he saw the dog and farmer together and the animal cowering in apparent fear. He says he stopped to offer the farmer $500 cash to take the dog away to safety.

The farmer grew upset with him over the proposal, Brockington says. He admits he gave the man "a couple of shots" to put him on the ground to end the dispute but left him with the money for the animal.

An Edmonton area woman who fled to Ontario to escape domestic abuse was being followed by her alleged abusive ex-boyfriend, but RCMP in Manitoba have arrested the man.

Kitscoty RCMP report police believe the suspect, Joshua Brockington, was gradually making his way from Alberta to Ontario, stealing cars along the way. He was finally stopped and arrested by RCMP in Portage La Prairie, Manitoba.

The investigation began on Wednesday when Kitscoty RCMP were called concerning an abandoned vehicle at an oil lease site south of Lloydminster. Police discovered that the car was registered to the Edmonton area woman. They were able to make contact with her and she told police she had recently fled an abusive relationship and was staying with family in Ontario.

Sgt. Jamie Hubbert of the Kitscoty RCMP says the woman was very concerned that Joshua Brockington would track her down and harm her.

It was then that the Kitscoty RCMP realized that a trail of stolen and abandoned vehicles from Alberta and into Saskatchewan were connected to Brockington. Hubbert says police believed the suspect was likely making his way to Ontario.

At that time, Kitscoty RCMP contacted the Ontario Provincial Police to apprise them of the situation and to ensure that the victim and her family were safe. Police also issued a western Canada bulletin concerning Joshua Brockington, outlining his alleged offences and potential destination.

Hubbert says “further reporting indicated that Brockington may have been associated to a series of offences in Saskatchewan”, and was heading east.

Not sure attempted murder would be the correct charge. Likely a tactic to charge him with a very serious crime in hopes of getting a deal on a lower but more correct charge.

Police say when they later spotted him in a large stolen truck he rammed an RCMP cruiser into a ditch, drove over it and fled, injuring the cop inside to the extent the officer required treatment in hospital.

Every time some idiot uses his vehicle to ram an RCMP cruiser with the cop inside is going to end up with attempted murder charges being laid. Probably standard procedure with the RCMP.
