The penthouse at Vancouver's Fairmont Pacific Rim has sold for $25 million, making it one of the most expensive condos ever sold in Canada, CBC News has learned.
Ehh, I'm not a fan of the downtown core as a place to live. My brother lives in the West End, and I love that area. Unlike Coal Harbour, which has almost 1/4 of the condos sitting empty from rich Asian investors just parking their money somewhere, there is a real sense of "community" there.
I'm in the process of moving out of my parents home in South Vancouver (Fraserview) and into a basement suite with a good buddy right near the water in Kitsilano. Kits gets a bad rap for sky high rent and living in a shoe box, but we managed to score the deal of a life time for a 650square foot place for $1,100 with utilities included.
And, as OF COURSE, our landlords (who don't own it but live upstairs and have been renting the main floor unit for 20+ years and are tasked with managing the house/property) informed us the owner is a rich retired Hong Kong doctor living in a mansion in Shaunnesey who inherited the house from his parents and keeps it for sentimental reasons.
I spent my entire Sunday in Kits 2 days ago with my to-be-roommate having a few beers on the patio at this local eatery and people watching at the beach after. I will say its incredibly pretentious in that area, but the gene pool of attractiveness is phenomenal and despite it being more yoga/fitness obsessed/Whole Foods/biking in its culture, there is a real sense of community in Kits too.
These pop up districts in Yaletown, Coal Harbour, No. 3 Road/Westminster Highway in Richmond, Surrey Central, etc. are so void of any warmth or neigbourhood vibe.
andy, start your rants !
special article just for Andy.

Maybe he bought the condo.

With what he makes from his minimum-wage gig at the coffee shop?
This is news? Isn't this the going rate in Van these days?
Yeah, for a small bachelor suite with a Murphy bed, in Yaletown....
Nice condo though. If I had $50 million(checks bank balance... not yet)I probably wouldn't buy that one. I'd get one on English Bay.
