The Vancouver Canucks fired head coach Alain Vigneault on Wednesday, just under two years after he guided the club to the seventh game of the Stanley Cup final.
"Zipperfish" said Shoulda got rid of Gillies. Luongo. Meh. Sundin--ugh. Now we got aging star forwards and a pylon defence.
I can think of a few players that should have been dumped instead of Vigneault. Wonder who'll pick up Vigneault? Don't look at me... we already fired him.

Wonder who'll pick up Vigneault? I don't think he'll be waiting too long for a job offer to come up. But I can think of about 14 teams that didn't make the playoffs who might give him a look.

yeah, they could do worse than him. Like Colorado going after Patrick Roy, f'rintance. I'm so looking forward to that clown show.
I totally agree, but he couldn't very well fire himself, that will have to wait until the Aquilini's finally come to their senses. They might think about bringing Stan Smyl from the front offices to behind the bench....
Vigneault wasn't the only casualty today, assistant coaches Rick Bowness and Newell Brown were also let go.
"Mike Gillis" said "We have made the very difficult decision to relieve Alain Vigneault, Rick Bowness and Newell Brown of their coaching duties today," Canucks president and general manager Mike Gillis said in a release issued by the team. "Alain, Rick and Newell worked tirelessly to lead this team to great on-ice success. I am personally grateful to each of them and their families for their commitment to the Canucks and the city of Vancouver and wish them continued success in future."
The Vancouver Canucks' firing of coach Alain Vigneault Wednesday most certainly will put Lindy Ruff's name at the center of speculation about being his possible replacement.
Ruff, fired by the Buffalo Sabres this season, is the hottest name in the coaching marketplace, and he would seem to be a good fit for a team that is still viewed as a Stanley Cup contender. Ruff would have to be intrigued by the prospect of coaching a team with more dangerous players than he had in his many years in Buffalo.
Canucks general manager Mike Gillis called it a "very difficult decision" to fire Vigneault, plus assistant coaches Rick Bowness and Newell Brown. The team was swept by the San Jose Sharks in the first round of the playoffs after posting a 26-15-7 record in the regular season.
Vancouver still retains the core group, including Henrik and Daniel Sedin, that reached the 2011 Stanley Cup Final and lost to the Boston Bruins in seven games.
Gillis already publicly has said that he plans to make changes to his roster. The Canucks are still looking to move goalie Roberto Luongo, who had remained with the team all season when Gillis couldn't find the right deal.
Although Ruff is the hot name, it's not a given that he would end up in Vancouver. Another possible candidate is Dave Tippett if he isn't re-signed by the Phoenix Coyotes. His contract expires next month, and the uncertainty surrounding the Coyotes' future make it seem plausible that he might consider other options if his contract expires.
Other potential candidates are Toronto Marlies American Hockey League coach Dallas Eakins and former Carolina Hurricanes coach Paul Maurice, who coached in the Kontinental Hockey League this season.
Not too shocked. Sure, other changes could be made too and there are a few months to go before next season starts so I expect more to happen to shake things up.

Now THAT would be interesting. I wouldn't object.
