Great use of discretion officer. Oh BTW It can be pulled but only by the officer issuing it, at least it was when and where I used to issue tickets.

Too bad exemptions don't travel back in time.

Pay the fine and call it a tax on being ignorant.

Or put on the seatbelt anyway.

It is a good point he went all the way to figure out how to outfit his vehicle for him to drive with no arms yet never considered the seat belt aspect.

There is a middle ground not taken however. Issue a warning and if he's picked up on it again then hammer him.

Cops? How many cops does it take to write a ticket? I'd say a 'cop' wrote 'a' ticket.

Mind, sounds way less Gestapo when it's just the one cop writing just the one ticket.

Too bad he didn't have arms enough to just punch the cop in the face, eh?

How does he open the door to his vehicle without arms? How does he steer? Get in and out? Etc?

The guy has NO FUCKING ARMS, how about using some common sense?? How hard must his life be already yet he is out in the world living his life instead of relying on you and I to foot the bills for him.

Well, if he can open a truck, start it up and drive it, maybe he can wear a seat belt too? If he can't then he needs a doctors note to say he is exempt. I think maybe there is a bit more to this story.

People without arms shouldn't be allowed to drive, period. Do you want to be beside a guy driving with his knees or his feet?

    I sure as hell don't.

So in 28 years, he never had to renew his license?
When I renew mine, it always says I have to wear glasses or contacts and they always ask. You'd think Service SK would tell him to get either an exemption-letter or ask if his car was customized to fit his needs and the law.

    You know this how?

He survives an electrocution, but has no problem getting killed in a car accident because he doesn't want to wear a seat belt. Okay then.

The fellow did get a doctor's note after he got the ticket, and went to see the officer with the note, however he wouldn't cancel the ticket.

Way too much fuss over a seat belt. I recall in the U.S. some states have laws where you are not pulled over simply for not wearing your seat belt. You need to commit another traffic violation in whichcase, you are given two tickets. However, when a safety campaign is underway (like the click-it-or-ticket campaign), all bets are off, and you will get ticketed if you are not wearing a seat belt, regardless if it's a secondary violation. I believe the only jurisdiction in North America that has no adult seat belt laws is the state of New Hampshire.

In summary, this fellow did not have the doctor's note when he was issued the ticket. If he is able to drive with his physical impairment, then there is a good chance he is able to put on his seat belt. That is likely why he got the ticket. However, now with the doctor's note, if he does go to traffic court, the judge will probably dismiss the ticket.

His car has certainly been customized. There's no way he would legally allowed to turn the steering wheel with his legs that I can see, so he must use pedals or something to steer. Wonder how he can steer and give gas or brake at the same time? How does he activate his turn signals. Etc - but presumably that's all been worked out. Good point tho about his license - they must have had a few questions when he walked in the first time. You'd think that would include how he puts on his seatbelt, or has an exemption. Should be easy for him to get an exemption and be compliant.
