Airline passengers in the U.S. will be able to carry small knives, souvenir baseball bats, golf clubs and other sports equipment onto planes beginning next month.
Reality is the concern isn't about the passangers or crew of the aircraft. It's about preventing the aircraft being used as a weapon to cause even more destruction. Think about the amount of security you'd go through boarding a train or a ferry with as many if not more passengers onboard? It'd be easy enough to bring harm to the people on board those modes of transportation. But the ability to use them as a weapon is rather limited by geometry, and frankly a train or a boat would likely be less destructive even if they were used as weapons.
