Big telecommunications companies have started offering unlimited internet packages for the first time in years, ahead of a decision by Canada's telecommunications regulator that could determine whether independent ISPs are able to offer similar packages.

Funny how small time internet providers in Canada can provide unlimited internet without having all the resources of these giant monopoly companies.

My rogers is already overpriced as hell garbage, not adding another $10 monthly for it.

Anybody know of any smaller ISP company that offers decent connection for a reasonable price? I know they all rent from Bell or Rogers anyways but surely there is a alternative, one that does not overly effect the quality of services to much.

I don't expect the same quality as you would direct from the source but nobody charges for that crap more then bell and rogers. Just looking for decreased price for as best quality as I can get.

You may want to consider Start or TekSavvy I am currently using Start 6mbps unlimited DSL (I have used TekSavvy, Bell and Cogeco in the past), both companies have been in business for 15 plus years, both also have Rogers area packages available. As for quality of connection my past experience was the same as with the incumbents.

In addition if you do call in you will be speaking to people in Chatham or London not an out sourced call centre.

Trouble calls can be frustrating as the providers are third party and seem to run into delays when dealing with last mile issues. I have been lucky and did not have the need for trouble calls so far YMMV.

    start.ca
    teksavvy.com

    Edited for more information:

As a comparison I will be starting beta besting for TekSavvy on their new Ontario Cogeco cable internet footprint next week, as I will be using a D3 modem the following package will apply.

    TekSavvy
    20mbps unlimited usage
    $48.95 per month

    Cogeco
20mbps 100 GB per month usage
    $60.95 (no bundle price)
    $50.00 overage (for theoretical unlimited)
    $110.95 total per month

OH LOOK! NOW THEY CAN PROVIDE UNLIMITED BANDWIDTH!!!! Oh, it's because of those massive "network infrastructure investments" that have been occurring for the last...what? Decade or so? Uh huh. And look how generous they are, pay an extra $30 for unlimited bandwidth, on top of the cost for the Internet plan.

Oh, and isn't it amazing that Bell and Rogers are offering the same exact plan? Naw...it's just a coincidence. Right.

I <3 TekSavvy. Fuck Bell, and fuck Cogeco/Rogers.

I've been getting unlimited defacto from Shaw for years. If I were paying the same money to Bell I'd have overrun my limit countless times over.

    I highly recommend Acanac.
    36$ for 18MB service.
    40$ for 28MB service.

Both offer unlimited bandwidth and a free home phone service. It’s unreal really. They even give you a free VPN if you want it.
Only downside is you need to buy your own modem and softphone (70$ + 30$), but given the fact a similar package at Rogers would run well over 150$ a month, you make your money back in 30 days.

I hope Rogers and Bell go bankrupt.
