The executive vice-president of the National Rifle Association called today for the U.S. Congress to act immediately to get armed police officers into all schools, a recommendation made just hours after a memorial was held to mark a week since the Newtown
Well that's the easiest solution to gun control ever. Levy a $10,000 tax on all assault rifles and automatic weapons designed to kill people in order to pay for those extra cops. Everyone wins
If it deters someone who is mentally unstable from shooting up a school, then yes I'm all for it. It would definitely provide me with some peace of mind if my child were attending a school that had a full time police officer on duty.

Another, in a long list of, ill informed posts about the US from you.
I remember a time when you could find an armed guard in every bank... none today.
As for one in schools... if someone want to go on a shooting spree, who do you shoot first... the armed police officer, of course, because we all know that these people don't expect to survive the shooting anyways.
Honestly though, a small tax on ammunition to help pay for this would probably be an ok idea. In the short term at least. Obviously a lot more needs to be done than just putting an armed guard in every school, but it's a relatively quick way to do something that might be useful.

Curious, what's "ill informed" about that post?
You mean other than the fact that full auto weapons are already essentially illegal? Also the use of the term "assault rifle". I have a couple of rifles that shoot the exact same calibre as military style rifles but are considered fine.
The poster in question is ill informed about weapons and weapons laws in the US and it is reflected in his post.
What's the point - as Thanos noted in another thread, Columbine High School had a cop/armed guard there and it didn't seem to make much of a difference there.

And do they want armed guards at all movie theaters and malls too? It's a BS non-starter of a plan.

Certainly help with unemployed vets. Put all the Iraq/Afghan returnees in battledress with automatic weapons. For them it will be an easy gig, and the country will be so much safer. Unless one of them freaks out of course.

There's around 90,000 schools in the US. Who's going to pay for all those extra cops? Cities? States? The Federal government? Federally, The Republicans won't even raise taxes to save the economy from another recession or cut education budgets first whenever there's a deficit. Do you think they'd vote for a $6 billion bill for armed guards at every school in America?
There's a problem that is the result of too many people having access to too many firearms...solution....more people with more firearms. Sort of like Ray Bradbury Firemen.
