McGuinty wants a 'locked door' policy at all elementary schools

Just in case you were under the false hope that Canada would not take any measures towards change in our schools...

Should have always been like this.

The problem is that, if you lock all the external doors, you have to give all the teachers keys to the building. Since teachers aren't to be trusted, the principals don't want to give teachers access to the building. I've heard that story about many schools.

Great idea Dalton McIquit. Cuz as we all know, psychopaths have this unwritten rule where they're not allowed to shoot at kids in the schoolyard, they HAVE to be IN the school building to be "legit" targets.

All external doors are locked at our schools when the kids are inside except for the main entrance. Two exterior doors are opened and locked after lunch and recess. The main entrance should be the same. It should be mandatory to buzz in and visit the office first.

PA, mass shootings rarely happen outside. The effect is much more profound indoors.

really, I see nothing wrong with locking most school doors. Those inside can get out in an emergency and all visitors must enter through a secure screened entrance. In high school, we use to have to go to the office and get a key to open classrooms, not already occupied by a staff member. If we wanted to use one of the gym before class started, during lunch or after school we also had to get a key from the office. All external doors were locked from the outside.

That's the biggest fault in the idea. Some shithead inside opening the door for other shitheads to enter.(Not implying that yoy are a shithead)

After reading what OTI, Shep and PD posted it seems locking school doors is something already happening in some places.

How things have changed in the 27 years since I graduated from high school. I don't recall this being an issue at all.

That was the situation when i went to school as well, different schools, different policies. We had a Bible verse and the Lord's prayer, right up to Grade 12, an d it was a public school.

Door are locked from the outside in, but not from the inside out here (elementary, I mean). So kids can get out in case of emergency without having to wait for someone with a key, but you can't get in.

The front door, with the principals office next to it and the main office with reception, is open.

I remember that when I was in elementary school in The Netherlands, the doors were locked also. That's 30+ years ago.
