Its TOTALLY gotta be Khan with the line "For I have returned", since Knan and his kind were banished from earth. And he can kinda jump with super human height it seems... thoughts?
At the beginning Cumberbatch is wearing a Starfleet uniform. As such I'm really hoping that this is a sign that his villain is going to be insane Starfleet Captain Garth of Izar. In TOS Garth had been given the ability by aliens to shapechange so giving him other augmented skills wouldn't be too far away from what his character was in TOS. I love Khan but Ricardo Montalban did the definitive portrayal and I just don't want to see it again.
io9's blathering today that a new and longer trailer will be available very soon. Some of the scenes are indicating, according to them, that Cumberbatch's villain could be Sybok, Spock's half-brother from Star Trek V. STV was kind of execrable, to the point where it was so loathed it's practically never been mentioned at all in any of the ST afterwards, but some of the Sybok stuff was kind of interesting. A Sybok, who never bothered to control his emotions in the first place, now indulging in the darkest of Vulcan emotions, enraged by the destruction of his homeworld, and seeking bloody revenge on Starfleet for not stopping Nero's genocide? Could be plausible and turn out to be damn cool.
I doubt it's Sybok. I'm still going with Cmdr. Gary Mitchell as the villain. Coincidentally, I had the original episode on my PVR and after watching it I still stand by that.
"BartSimpson" said This is looking awesome. Trek is still one of my favorite movies in the past few years.
Ditto. I really loved how JJ Abrams rendered 45 years of Fan Boy 'knowledge' irrelevant!
For those of us who actually watched 'Trek prior to Abrams creating his own personal 'Trek-verse and throwing out almost everything that made Star Trek... well Star Trek, it is actually mildly irritating.
Like ever so quietly popping bubble wrap throughout the film.
Not saying the last film wasn't good. It was. But you could have changed the character names, costumes, etc. and titled the thing "Jimmy Bob versus the Space Elves" and you wouldn't have any clue that they were using a "Star Trek" script.
Again, the last movie was an enjoyable to watch (if you take it on its own), but it wasn't 'Trek.

I thought Abrams was going to break the good movie - crap movie - good movie cycle the old Trek movies always went through.
