Before tou run off blaming "cartels", you should know that the main reason US cheese and dairy prices are lower is because they are heavily subsidized by the US taxpayer. US Dairy producers recieve price guarantees from the government and are reimbursed if dairy prices fall below a pre-arranged amount. The US govt also purchases massive amounts of US cheese, milk and other farm products in bulk for use in federally funded school and welfare programs, the militar, prisons etc.in what is generally considered to be primarily a domestic subsidy program. This is where the slang term for welfare "government cheese" comes from (as in "he be livin' on government cheese"). The government also has also long purchased massive amounts of powdered milk and dairy for national stockpiles, mainly for the purpose of driving up demand.

Let me tell you, whenever I hear of a government cheese give-away I get in my Volvo and I get there ASAP!
The cheese is American cheese, like Velveeta, but far richer and smoother because it is made with dairy and not vegetable oil.
And the ....oh, Dear God, the butter is absolutely amazing!
I cook with it and it never scorches and the flavor when you spread it on toast...
You folks really ought to try this stuff, oh, but you can't.
Funny, you can smoke all the pot you want but you can't have US cheese!

Honestly, I can't tell which parts of that post are sarcasm and which are for real.

Gotta disagree Bart, your dairy products don't taste near as good as ours.

Dude, you haven't tried the USDA butter and cheese. I am dead serious when I tell you that I'd willingly pay $50 a kilogram for either if it was sold on the market...it's that good.

Just the part about the pot was sarcasm...the rest is dead serious.

American "cheese" is the worst thing ever perpetrated in the name of cheese.
American butter isn't any better than ours.
Whoever invented it is right in line with Stalin and Hitler as one of mankind's most heinous criminals!

There's one notable exception: Cabot cheese from Vermont is AMAZING. Especially the habanero cheddar, which requires one to put a roll of toilet paper in freezer prior to consuming.
