This referee, Christiana Pedersen is a real class act, calling an almost unheard of penalty in what could be called the game of the century. Then to add insult to injury she calls a hand ball on the resulting indirect free kick, which then resulted in Abby Wambach scoring the tying goal. When team captain Christine Sinclair pleaded with Pedersen to reconsider her descision Pedersen "actually giggled and said nothing," A "world class" official who honestly should never again officiate anything more than a backyard pick-up game! Totally disgusted by this "classy" act!

At least no one is blaming the USA for this. Yet.

The governing body of soccer is considering disciplinary action over blistering comments made by Canada's coach and players following a loss to the United States in the semifinals of the Olympic women's soccer tournament.

FIFA says it will analyze the remarks by the Canadians, who were upset with the referee over a call rarely seen. Goalkeeper Erin McLeod was whistled for holding the ball too long, starting a sequence that led to the Americans' tying goal late in the game.

The U.S. won 4-3 in extra time.

Canada forward Christine Sinclair said afterward that "the ref decided the result before the game started."

U.S. forward Abby Wambach revealed Tuesday that she subtly lobbied for the call by counting out loud when McLeod had the ball.

Aside from Wambach, who admitted to counting aloud while the ball was being held....still an all round disgusting performance from the ref. And now FIFA is considering disciplinary action against Canada because of their complaints!

Oh, I doubt it's the American team's fault. Sure, they play with questionable tactics and do crap like counted to try and draw a penalty, but I don't honestly think anyone on the American team would be so stupid as to try and slip the ref an envelope stufed with cash.

No, if I were a conspiracy nut, I'd lay the blame on FIFA and/or the IOC, who wanted the US in the gold medal game.

Having the Canadian team play in it instead would have upset their license to print money...

Claiming that the referee's questionable calls were malicious and not just incompetent is going to anger FIFA. So will the accusations that the U.S. Soccer Federation could ever raise enough money to bribe FIFA. You need the resources of the Royal Treasury of Qatar to bribe FIFA.

Freedom of speech being peculiar only to the USA these days I'm not surprised. I think we were just looking at the same thing except from the side of the Americans who were tweaked that they're not supposed to mention their sponsors on social media during the Olympics.

This is the way it is in most of the world where authority rules and people will be forced to obey.

That's not surprising. Most international and professional sporting events frown on public criticism of officials.

For those who complain about Gary Bettman too much, remind yourselves that things could always be worse. The NHL (aka the only sport that matters anyway) could be run the way FIFA does things with soccer. Some NHL referees are only inept. They're usually not full-blown corrupt the way FIFA refs are.

I really hope FIFA doesn't use this officiating team again anytime soon. They missed this example of creative footwork.
