That's half the equation. A French speaking GM. Now for the Franco speaking coach and all will be well in Separation City, no matter how the hockey team does.

I'm guessing the most vocal of the language first losers in Montreal probably aren't even hockey fans and don't care how the team does as long as the coach and GM only speak french.

As a lifelong Hab's fan I find this utterly disgusting. If these fucking loosers would open up a history book they'd discover the Hab's greatest glories came when Anglo's were running the team and language wasn't an issue as long as the Cup was in Montreal where it belonged. :x

The majority of the complaining regarding the lack of a French GM came from the media in Quebec and not the fans. Sport reporters in Quebec are the ones that spearheaded the charge over getting all stabby because they had to do interviews in English. Most fans I suspect don't care what language they speak, and just want them to win games.

Chris Chelios put it best the last time this was an issue with their captain.
" he's here to win hockey games, not be an ambassador for the French language"

I agree most real Hab's fans don't give a shit what language their coach and GM speak as long as the team wins and that's the point I was trying to get across.

I don't know Bergevin's pedigree but I can assure you that one of the biggest reasons he was picked for the GM position was his ability to talk to the whiners in their own language although it's not like they'll be listening to anything he says anyway so it's a moot point.

The sad part is that the politically correct complainers won and the real fans have lost.

I hope he does a great job but he's got a long hard road ahead of him, especially getting rid of the bobsie twins and their 12 million per year combined salary for 26 points produced.

    Right on.

Also, the fact that it is a journalist from the Chicago Tribune that broke the story and not one of the supposed elite from the Montreal media, oh the humiliation.

It is reported that some owners around the league, close to the Canadiens organisation, are prepared to do anything to stop any team to transfer to Quebec City.

After all, that would be direct competition to the Habs in the province. They would not want any of that eh! Either way, Quebec City will get a team eventually, that should come from any market.

So let me get this straight. Regional Rivalries aren't good for business anymore? I guess the Maple Leafs had better move to Moose Jaw and Ottawa would be better off in Moncton so they don't infringe on Monteals business model. 8O

What a crock of shit. Did the Molsons dig up their 1979 archives because they sound strikingly familiar to the same complaints and bitches we heard when the Nordiques were going to cross over the the WHL to the NHL back in the day.

Quebec deserves a team and if Montreal can't handle that fact maybe they should be moving to Beunos Aires to avoid any regional rivalries to their business.
