Homophobics should consider a little self-reflection, suggests a new study finding those individuals who are most hostile toward gays and hold strong anti-gay views may themselves have same-sex desires, albeit undercover ones.

Nothing really new, but it's more science to back up theories that have been around for a long time. For those who dont want to read the article here is The Young Turks' video on the studies.

The more science investigates this the better, and hopefully those people that are feverently anti-gay (WBC) will curb their acctions lest they be thought of as gay.

That's great. So if you don't like gays the uber-tolerant PC crowd's going to call you a fag.

The prejudice of homophobia may also stem from authoritarian parents, particularly those with homophobic views as well, the researchers added.

Worth looking into, I think. I find it really odd that people latch onto this as an issue and in such an intense manner.

Some of the loudest gay bashers certainly turned out to be.

If anything I hope this will help people accept who they are, so they can be closer to happy instead of hateful.

It won't. Somewhere they've been taught that they're dirty or evil, have deeply internalized that, and are are deeply conflicted. A study like this isn't going to change that.

I also don't think this study says that everybody who hates gays is gay themselves. As it says, it just means you internalized the authoritarian parenting you received. I mean basically that would be saying we're a gay society, since we're still pretty homophobic and certainly were so in the past.

Not just the study, I dont think people who fall into this category will *not actively seek help. However if there is enough science behind it you could develop a social program which would help people accept their sexuality.

    *edited or clarity.

What is there to not like about a group of people that are grouped by their sexual orientation?
You can dislike a person for various reasons, but to dislike everyone who has a certain sexual orientation? It makes no sense to me.

I don't get it either, Brenda. I don't like liver, but I don't hate people who eat liver.

Again if this theory is correct then the reason they hate the group is because that have been conditioned at a young age to hate.

So then you agree with the principles of NAMBLA that kids should be exposed to 'alternate' sexual practices at an early age so they'll grow up to be more accepting of ?

Or just expose them less to bigots.
