Matthews too well-regarded to go down, but the sideshow has hurt her chances of passing serious reforms to ailing system

Well, like the article points out, the entire amount of taxpayer money provdided to ORNGE is only 0.3% of the Health budget. So it was easy for the criminals at ORNGE to stay off the radar and hide in plain sight.

Not that I'm minimizing any of this. I think when rich and powerful steal money -espcially public money - its worse than a kid from the ghetto robbing a store at gunpoint. I hope every one of these bastards is tarred and feathered in a public square before serving a lenghty sentence behind bars and having a government lawsuit strip every penny from them.

Sorry, that's usually reserved for the ghetto kid. Can't have some of our most prominent citizens in jail now, can we? A ghetto kid stealing threatens the system. The rich and powerful stealing the system.

To be fair, the ORNGE guys weren't government. They were private-sector business partners ripping off the government.

Exactly. PA's post makes no sense. If the govt takes money, even if it wastes it on inefficient or ineffective projects, that's not stealing. Stealing is when the govt's private buddies get in on the act. Part of the system tho - no matter who's in power. Reward your friends.

Not totally private in the normal definition, McCarter described it as a public-private hybrid so there should have been someone riding shot gun on the cheque book. Especially since government funding for Ornge climbed 20 per cent over four years, while the number of patients it airlifted actually declined.
I only hope that the province can terminate all existing contract and leases given to the buddy system.
