No jail for aunt who abused 3-year-old: appeals court

The B.C. Court of Appeal will not incarcerate a woman who pleaded guilty to aggravated assault and failure to provide the necessities of life in relation to her three-year-old niece.

(I agree with you. But since a murderer of his own 2 kids got off, this should not be surprise)
