American military top-brass met with foreign officials overseas this week after growing problems with the US Air Force’s F-35 program has caused a handful of nations to consider terminating their contracts with the States to purchase warplanes.
"gonavy47" said Let's get out of this and go for what we really need, two engined jets.
Not really, I think.
Ongoing incidents onboard the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter jets have caused the US Air Force to suspend the program themselves several times as of late, and with other countries lined up to purchase the planes at roughly $200 million a pop, malfunctions, delays and growing costs are raising more than just a few eyebrows.
But if they are balking on it what is every one supposed to think. There is a lot of money involved here. You could get stuck with a $200M per unit purchase price and then a lot of expensive problems after that.
Ask any fighter jock, and they'll tell you, two engines are better than one. Especially flying the distances over uninhabited areas that our boys and girls do.
Weren't there a lot of experts on this forum assuring is that the cost wouldn't exceed 100 million per (don't remember the exact figure) We had some very strong opinions about how the F-35 was the only option and they pity the fool who believes otherwise.

"dino_bobba_renno" said 200 million? That's more than the cost of the Raptor.
We should just buy the damn Raptors then, at least they have two engines. It'll never happen. The US has zero desire to import that technology to anyone.

Now, now Andy, you know how it is around elections - anyone who calls BS on Harper and Co. is called a left wing partisan, even if a year later the promise Harper made falls flat (just like his 2008 election promise there wouldn't be a recession)!

Yep, I doubt you'll find too many(if any) RCAF pilots that would take a single over a dual powerplant
Sorry. I thought he was refering to older planes rather than new material.

Not me. To me the F-35 is a pimple on a wart.

Don't think we're allowed. Although that would be a lovely turn of events.

We can get a pair of Dassault Rafales for that price. Plus other benefits.
I now I have said this before on a other recent topic, so sorry if I sound like a record. Dump the JSF and hold our own MMRCA competition.
