The District of Invermere has begun to cull its urban deer, after a temporary court injunction brought it to a halt earlier last month.

    Are they at least going to make the meat available?

    Absolute bullshit. I may buy into the cull called for in Saanich because of the farmers losing produce, but in every other municipality it's bullshit to satisfy a bunch of fucking whining fucking gardeners too fucking lazy and stubborn to plant plants that deer don't ;like.

    the rhetoric coming out of these fucks... "there will be bloodshed soon... I'm worried they'll attack my dog... car collisions are way up..."

    Fuck them all!

    Fuuuuuuuck! When I bought my house, there was no such thing as deer. Langford's fuckfaced mayor gives a green light to hack down the forests and develop the hell out of the municipality means the deer move into the rest of Victoria. Now, all the elderly gardeners are whining like little bitches because the deer are eating their tulips. Fuck them. Take it out on Langford and not the fucking deer!

    Good point. Meat should be harvested from the cull and go to food banks. They should do the same with those long eared rats(I know, I know, rabbits aren't rodents) at UVic.

    As for the deer being a danger to dogs. The only dogs that need to fear the tiny deer found around Victoria are those foofy little purse rats.

    Yes, either to food banks and/or available for sale. Deer meat is awesome when prepared correctly. Very healthy eating, as they have at least consumed a natural diet. It's a shame that a cull is necessary at all but at the very least do not waste the animal.

    There was, and still is to an extent, a huge rabbit problem where I live. The local park I go to to take pics has many bunnies inhabiting it that are not meant to live "in the wild". The local animal shelter for awhile was trapping and neutering/spaying them and trying to encourage people to adopt them as pets. Not 100% sure if they still are though. I see many people taking produce to feed them, and while their intentions are good they are not helping them at all. While I'm walking around bunnies come right up to me as if expecting a hand-out, they are really quite tame.

    Rabbits have been a problem in many places and if a cull was necessary to curb their population, there is nothing wrong with that meat being harvested either. I tried rabbit many years ago... and I recall it being quite good.

    Deer = rabbits.

    Except the deer are road hazards.

    At least their headlights reflect off their eyes and they always look at you as you speed towards them. Moose just ignore you and it is like a wall of black.

    First of all, it's illegal to sell, barter or trade wild game, this is a federal law so I can't see it being waived for culled venison. The other problem I see is people getting all indignant about being offered "Wild" game from the food bank, especially if the deer has been culled.....think Bambi... :roll: :roll: Then there are those who would take the meat and then complain that it's "gamey"! Anywhere else in the world this meat would go to the food bank, but this being Canada I think it will be an uphill battle to get it put to good use. I honestly wouldn't be surprised to see it going to the dump......for health reasons.

    beggars shouldn't be choosers. Have food inspectors test it to make sure there aren't any parasites or diseases that are infectious to humans in the animals. if people whine about it being 'gamey', well that's what ketchup and spices are for. We ate plenty of caribou and moose when we were up north because pork and beef was too expensive and of dubious quality when bought from the Northern Store.

    What a waste then. Sad that at least a bit of good could come out of a bad situation. I have personally prepared game meat for Q'ing. The right marinade is all you need to cut down some of that "gaminess" without losing the unique flavor it has.

    Bambi was a cartoon... :roll: but I get what you're sayin'.
