While it's a shame to see such a local icon come down it is a bridge, and bridges don't last forever.

What a bloody shame! It's more the loss because the E&N doesn't come into the downtown anymore. Not a big deal to a lot of people, I know, but to tourists it was quite handy to be able to take that train from Nanaimo right up to the Bastion Square area.

Victoria makes a habit out of short sighted decisions.

I imagine traffic on the Bay St is going to become nuts.

This illustrates the dismissive contempt for the E&N that I've observed in Vic for a long time. It galls me that decisions like this will eventually put the E&N out of business and then Vic, the province, and Ottawa will spend billions to replace it with light rail.

Spent many an early morning running across that bridge for PT. Spent many Monday mornings leaving a weekends worth of booze and burritos in the water below! 8O

There is no need for the E&N to run into downtown Victoria, since it doesn't have a passanger service and isn't likely to ever get one back.

So, sad as it is the Blue Bridge is comming down it's now, nothing more than a costly reminder of a promise made to Vancouver Island about it's future in Canada.

The Feds just denied their share to bring up the E&N.

    Bullshit.

Never a big fan of The Old Forge. Preferred live music at the Waterfront Cabaret or that little place on Bastion Square! PDT_Armataz_01_11

It's sad to see a piece of history like that be demolished. I see a lot of that locally here. Usually short sighted decisions by people of limited imagination.
