Unlike many employers, Warm Up Winnipeg does not ask about an applicant's criminal record until after he joins the organization, giving him the opportunity to gain work experience and practical training that he likely wouldn't have gotten anywhere else.

"I tried for a long time to get a job. I felt like if it didn't come soon, I'd just be in jail again. I was so close to giving up."

"It feels like you're more of a man after you work every day for a while. It's a good feeling.
"I couldn't stay in school when I was younger, I couldn't really stick to anything when I was younger. But I know I stuck to this. I stuck to my tutoring when I was in tutoring, so I feel confident," he said.
"I'm going to be something big in my life, something to be proud about."

"(Warm Up Winnipeg) is trying to get more and more people to work, and trying to get people off the street. You don't have to be out there selling drugs," said Houle.

"A lot of us don't know what else to do," Steven added. "We're stuck listening to family, friends -- whoever -- saying, 'Oh, I'm doing this and I'm making money.' And you're hungry, you don't have work experience. That's the only thing you have that you can do."

Shep says that never happens though, so he must be lying.

Very good idea. Unless we lock them up forever, we'd better have some help for them when they get out to fly the straight and narrow.

Congratulations Warm Up Winnipeg and Participants notice the participants said that jail didn't stop them from commiting a crime...a job did.
Even if the program isn't 100 percent effective and a few are lost along the way it's better than what we are doing now! :|
