The captain accused of abandoning a wrecked cruise ship off the Italian coast says he ended up on shore after accidentally tripping into a lifeboat that was being lowered into the sea.
"I was helping some passengers put the life boat to sea. At a certain point the mechanism for lowering it, blocked. We had to force it. Suddenly the system unblocked itself and I tripped and I found myself inside the life boat with a number of passengers."
From what I remember of the life boats, it is physically impossible to "trip" into them. His bullshit excuses just keeps reminding us what a coward the man truly is.
Ok, let's pretend he did "accidentally" fall into the lifeboat. Still doesn't excuse his dicking around when told to get back on board the ship by the Port Authority.

They are sealed units, and you have to climb UP to them, IIRC. If he fell in to one, why didn't he just get back out?
And why was he off the Bridge during a disaster such as this in the first place?
The captain is done but what of the XO? And there is a review going on in the US who is responsible for this cruise line, are they actually going to be held to account for this fiasco?
Sure you did, Mr. Ismay.

Italians. I'll never understand what it was that the Fuhrer thought he saw in these people.

Still stuck with them today.
