Robair beat me to it. I entirely agree. With the group we have in Washington an the characters running for President I would be certain that we would have better leadership and lawmakers.

    or

just have Canada annex the US

I'm thinkin' yer suffering from "the grass is greener" syndrome. To put it bluntly, outside of one or two Premiers, I wouldn't trust any current party leader in Canada to run my train set, nevermind this country or the US.

Sad as it sounds, I have to agree here, on the federal level there is nothing good and on the premier level we have a few good ones (As much as I hate to admit it, Brad Wall is one of them) but not many.

    Oh Snap !!!!

I keep hoping that somewhere here there are a group of folks out there who would do a good job at running our countries. We don't have a great deal of success in attracting the kind of people we would really like to see.

Then again as Winston Churchill put it our democratic system are inefficient, unwieldy and overly complicated unless compared to what is in second place.

But what kind of people run for public office at any level? Resume something like this: professional (often Lawyer), volunteer with this, administrator of that, attends Church X, lifelong community member etc. What can you really expect from these kinds of people? Small c conservative is the rule.

In ON I think we are voting for a Premier who is supposed to be "manager of the family business". Anyone with big ideas or inspiration (i.e. expensive) need not apply.

Considering Saskatchewan was taken from rags to our current position of wealth by those kind of people, quite a bit. Hell, a church minister gave Canada medicare and spearheaded an effort that modernized Saskatchewan.
