The Pakistani Taliban has declared a ceasefire to encourage nascent peace talks with the government, a senior commanders said, a move that appears to show the deadly group's willingness to strike a deal with state.
OK, problem Number One right off the bat is that Taliban fighters do not listen to Taliban leaders. Mullah Omar, on the eve of Muslim holiday Eid (warlier this month), directed Taliban fighters to avoid civilian casualites. The Taliban then went on a tear blowing up civilians all over the place for the next couple of weeks--not by accident either.
Problme Number Two is the minute the heterogenous mess called te Taliban decalre a ceasefire, some disgruntled faction will hive off and start its own conflict. This is a illiterate, peasant army completely controlled at the local level by mullahs. They did limitd harm until they were infected wiht Wahabbi extremism, thanks to Osama and the Saudis.
Not that it's all bad. Sooner or later Afghanistan and Pakistan will have to sit down with each other and the Taliban if there is ever to be peace. The Taliban are part of those countries. If the Pakistan and the Taliban are making noises about sitting down without the US having to mediate or be involved, that's not a bad thing.
I have a feeling this is going to end up with the Taliban easing up their control in Pakistan, in exchange Pakistan is going to protect the Taliban from US/NATO attacks.

Yeah, this'll last maybe all of today.
Yes, The life of this cease fire will be real short.
Now all we need to do is get Pakistani troops to guard everything in Afghanistan, right?
kinda like letting the fox watch the hen house
