The fund cap, which stood at $60 million since 1998, was raised to $100 million, then to $200 million in the last month, Goodale said. “What the Conservatives are doing is they’re diverting ... money from grain sales into the contingency reserve. That is
Sounds like a tactic used by another government and EI. You have to wonder what's going to happen next election. The NDP no longer has Happy Jack, the Liberals...Liberals who?? And the CPC, who are ....I have no fucking clue what they are doing.
That's rich. A Liberal bitching about a standing Government appropriating someone elses money.
Where was Mr. Goodale when Paul Martin took 30 billion out of our pension fund...........................quiet as a church mouse on the subject.
If the Federal Liberals wanted any credibility on the subject they should have picked someone not connected to their former Govermnents "appropriation" of other peoples monies. Now it just looks like partisan politics as usual.

Pretty sure Ralph is the only prarie Liberal MP. Some of his constituents are farmers that have paid into this fund. If that doesn't make him the best qualified, don't know what would.
"They did it too" is no defence. I don't have party affiliations, I don't care who does it. If it's wrong, crucify them for it.
Why the hell would you defend this? Why would anybody? You feel the need because there's a blue C beside your name??
But but but....the wheat board itself is misappropriating money by spending over 1.4 million on ads targeting areas not covered by board for their own propaganda purposes.
The WCWG is in favour of allowing farmers to sell their wheat and barley on the open market. - oh the horror.

200 million vs 1.4 The board is elected by farmers to spend that money and is accountable to them. The federal government is elected by city folk.

So is Cargill, Viterra, and anybody competing with western Canadian grain farmers. Go figure.
I wonder why, despite the gag order, an aggresive campaign by the Harper government, and Harper removing the spending cap on wheat board campaigns, pro single desk board members were still elected.

Bullshit. When Goodale can turn a blind eye to it happening to someone elses constituents and then come out against it happening to his it makes him a, what's the word I'm searching for.
Oh yeah, hypocrite.
I'm not in favor of the Conservatives doing this just like I wasn't when Paulie Martin did it and for the fucking record I was born and raised in Saskatchewan with about 80 percent of my relatives being farmers or cattlemen. So don't play the your a Conservative Card on me, cause it won't work.
This may be bullshit but the Liberals should have picked someone without the stank of Martin and Cretiens Governments appropriations all over them to bitch about it.

Yea well, that post sure sounded like you were justifying their actions to me. Thanks for setting the record strait.

No problem.
I'm not justifying anyones actions. What I'm pissed about is Goodale being the one beaking when he sat quietly and watched a pension fund decimated by his parties willingess to use "appropriation" to achieve their goals.
It's pure political pandering and if I was a betting man I'd say he likely doesn't care anymore about the Tories taking the WheatBoard money than he did about the Liberals taking that Pension fund.
There are many arguments that can be made about the Martin actions to tackle the debt and deficits. But it did not `steal`money from the Pension funds. It was the Unions that were most vocal about that and I did not get the impression that you are a Union man.
That was surplus money that was used to pay down the debt and had the effect of lowering interest rates (taken with the other measures) and putting Canada in the position of being able to withstand the shocks of 2008.
The government was, is, liable for any deficits in the fund and if there is any shortfall in the amount available for payment, it is legally obliged to make it up.
I happen to disagree with the methods used since they actually led to a reduction ingrowth rates that would have put Canada in the same strong position if left alone. However, it is not exactly correct to say that the pension funds were stolen. The surplus was applied to productive use.
More to the point, I think.
The Ritz line has been the board is stealing a million dollars for it's ad campaign, all the while stealing 200 million himself.

Farmer’s fire back at CWB with their own lawsuit
WCWGA say CWB has no right to spend farmers money on a political campaign
I wonder why they are doing it after losing a legal batter over advertising last year.

Aren't we not supposed to do that?
