a gaggle of malcontents is allowed to ignore City of Calgary bylaws for weeks on end, yet a single counter-protestor is pounced upon like a pedophile at a playground.

Typical. The leftists get a pass on being a-holes and the citizen who wants his park cleaned up gets punished.

Isn't it in the city by-laws that you cannot camp over night within city limits, other than on a camp ground?

In Victoria at least, that was overruled by the court because it was shown there weren't enough homeless shelters in the city.

But it's a matter of numbers. Just like the police don't enforce traffic laws during Critical Mass rides, because it would lead to more chaos than just letting the ride proceed. Haven't heard or seen much of CM since Robertson started putting in all those bike lanes.

    roughly, yes.

..but calgary's situation may be a bit different from other cities, in that we are basically dealing with a homeless shanty town. council knows that they could go in and pull up all the tents, but the feeling is that they would be facing a crowd of martyrs with little to lose, and no money to cover any fines. in ralph klein's day, these bastards would be getting hosed down and dragged off, but nenshi doesn't have that sort of gusto. so, we wait for winter as the bums and their shit pile up.

From 1900 to 0700, then the tents have to be removed. The occupation is in violation of that.
