Iran raised the prospect on Tuesday of sending military ships close to the United States' Atlantic coast, in what would be a major escalation of tensions between the long-standing adversaries.

"Like the arrogant powers that are present near our marine borders, we will also have a powerful presence close to American marine borders

ROTFL In order to have a powerful presence one needs to have a navy of some size.
This is hardly an intimidating force and would likely be an invitation for target practice for the US Navy if they strayed too close.

ROTFL Talk about a hollow threat

Clearly another hollow political move for Tehran to seem powerfully anti-American.
Regardless of that though, isn't the US navy sitting about 10 km from Iran's border?

This would provide the US Navy with an opportunity for a nice live fire exercise, the additional benefit is that the sunken warships would make a nice artificial reef for fish and sport divers.

The Iranians on board would get their 72 virgins each and a chance to have a drink with the Ayatollah Khomeini so all would be happy.

The Iranians could operate in the Gulf of Mexico from Cuban or Venezuelan ports. But the second they interdict a US flagged ship or even a Bayliner they'll get pounded. Hard.

Head of the Navy, Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari.

With idiotic statements like this, my guess would be that he got to be a "Rear Admiral" for reasons completely different from his western counterparts.

They better be careful if they go near the the Gulf states. They could be met with a fleet of heavily armed, alcohol fueled bass boat marines. Gunnery SGT Bubba Billy Jo-Bob Lefevre ensured the captured Iranian crew was well fed on a diet of Bud and BBQ Pork.
