Parc Downsview Park Inc., the museum's landlord, handed an eviction notice to staff at the historic facility a few days ago, said Cohen.
The Air and Space Museum is behind on its rent by about $100,000 and has gone through several management changes i
I heard about it but I have heard no commentary as to why the problem has arisen. Could it be just another of this government's cutbacks? They are defunding everythibg that is not connected with their vote base.
There is (or was) an Air and Space museum at Downsview? I think I can see what their first problem was: If the only advertising you're going to do is wait for the papers to announce you're broke then no one is going to know you're there. Second problem is Downsview is pretty out of the way for both tourists and locals, but I guess it was the best solution for them in terms of space.
Sadly, it's typical of Canada. We're so busy looking to provide growth and move forward into the future that we're completely willing to destroy our past to do so.
Edmonton has gone the same route and is closing down our historic city centre airport so that we can build some low rise condos and a few shops. While I understand that the airport is too small to land large commercial planes, odds are this exact same scenario will happen to the Alberta Aviation Museum (located at the airport) in a decade or two.

Oh sure, blame the government
Go back and read the whole article. As much as I hate seeing this (I went to this museum and it's really cool), when you don't pay your rent, these things happen. I can only hope they quickly find a new place and re-open.
I thought I heard on the news tonight that there are missing artifacts/exhibits. Apparently no one knows where half the shit that was in there actually is now. Is that correct? I swung and missed trying to confirm with a Google search.

-J.It seems to me, CP, that it is the government. Harper wants less culture and more hockey rinks. Possibly so that he can put an appendix to that book about hockey he is supposed to be writing showing his role in the game was more than just spectating.
This is something that should not be allowed to drop. The Museum is in a position to start making payments according to this report and the Crown Corporation is willing to forego that rent to gain possession for the construction of Hockey rinks.

Typical that eureka would cite the Canadian Huffingtion Post, really just an American media source in Canadian clothing. I must only assume eureka is a Secret American as well.
